New rules at Baccara by The Bison

I was in Baccara on Friday night, Sept 14th, sitting by the downstairs stage and getting a stiff neck from looking up.By and by one of the new door girls came in and struck up a conversation with me. She was cute and I could sense some compatability, so I bought her a lady drink and after a spell, I offered to pay her bar fine.

Well, she came back to me with a receipt for the bar fine, but said that I had to pay for another lady drink as Baccara has a house rule that stipulates that punters must spring for a 2 lady drink minimum in order to bar fine a chick.

Hmmmm… so in one interpretation, the Baccara Bar Fine is actually THB 900 as the punter must spring for at least two THB 150 lady drinks. I guess they feel they can get away with this stuff because they have such a large number of Japanese punters who won’t bother to complain.

Although an extra THB 150 won’t break my bank, I just feel that this goes against my Go-Go Bar principles; I reserve the right to decide how many lady drinks I will buy and for whom…

Has this 2 lady drink minimum been in force for a long time? Is it spreading to other bars on Cowboy?

First I’ve heard, but I haven’t barfined from Baccara for a while. Will certainly check it out this week. Did you buy her the second drink, or did you ask for a refund for your barfine? If enough people do the second, I’m pretty sure the rule will get dropped fast.

They can get away with it, last time i went to baccara it was 99% japanese. Those guys like to obey rules.

There is a lot of japanese in there but I think cause they run a good go-go. good looking girls, great music and a comfortable place to hang.

however if this new rule is true then it just continues what I believe is the decline of the go-go for anything other than staring at a few birds and getting some drinks. Hardly an environment for grabbing some nookie.

Does that mean that some poor sod who wants to long ball a Baccara girl would have to pay the bar 900 baht per day? (I know that Baccara girls are ST specialists, but I still wonder what effect, if any, the new policy would have on long ballers.)

l - good question. What if I walk in and I have some drinks. I see a girl and I say I want to bar fine her. She says okay order me 2 drinks. I say no. What will management do. Sorry u cannot barfine this girl unless you buy 2 drinks. I say eff off. So then really what they are saying is the barfine is 900 baht. Then they should advertise 900 baht barfines and I bet if they do they would lose some business.

i think they tried to pull your pants down there
did you stand your ground and say no?
im sure if you’d of told them bollox they would back down, maybe they thought you were a soft touch?
im sure they wouldnt quibble over the 150baht (baring in mind the slice the bar takes and the slice the girl takes) if you were willing to fine - maybe SHE not the bar was trying there luck?

Ling, When speaking Thai, we want to be careful when speaking the words ‘Tuk’ - ถูก (meaning ‘correct’) and ‘Tut’ - ตูด (meaning ‘asshole’). :)

I think the confusion may have originated from an earlier typo.

    Some replies to our Bangkok comrads;

    * I stood my ground. First, the waitress to whom I paid my drinks bill came up to me and mentioned the two drink minimum as my chick was off to pay the bar fine. I told the waitress that it’s B.S. and I don’t agree with this “house rule”.

    * Then, my chick came back with the receipt for my bar fine and informed me that I had to pay for another lady drink. She was apologetic as it was her first night on the job and nobody had informed her of this rule. I told her that it’s not my policy to be dictated to about how many lady drinks I have to buy. I told her to take the bar fine receipt back to the cashier and refund my money.

    * She went back to the cashier and I could observe a three-way debate between her, the cashier and the mama-san. At no time did the mama-san come over to smooth out the issue or to try to convince me to accept the “house rule”. I could see them arguing with the mama-san and cashier reluctant to spit back my THB 600 - finally they did. My chick came back and gave me my money. Apologized again and then asked for a tip…

    * My “tip” to her was, “Get rid of this stupid house rule of a mandatory 2 lady drinks to bar fine a Baccara slapper…” As I stalked out of the bar, I gave my best “f**k you” look to the mama-san.

    * The chick’s name was “Jiap” - before joining the Baccara team, she worked in a beer bar on Soi 22.

Note: I was there with two other mates and we had each bought several rounds of drinks amongst ourselves. One of my mates did bar fine his chick, but since he had already bought her a few shots of tequila, the 2 lady drink minimum issue did not come up. He had already left with his chick by the time I decided to bar fine mine.
    ——————————————–

So, there you go. Baccara simply feels it can dictate it’s “house rules” to the punters. Well, if the punters accept it. Fair enough. I don’t and I won’t be spending much time at Baccara when I’m out on a pussy hunt.

fair play for standing your ground and telling them to poke it
would be a shame if all the bars in BKK adopted this rule
doesnt suprise me that she asked for a tip
it seems over the past 3years i been visiting/then living in BKK the girls are steadily becoming pushier for tips which is tantermount to begging in my book
my pet hate is being asked for a tip (if asked i never give) or if i do decide to tip you get a dirty look as if you havent tipped enough (guys who massage in toilets are the worst)
if they screw-face i take the tip back and they go without

They’ve been running this kind of system in Makati for years. Typically, a BF is 6 or 10 lady drinks (at 250-300 pesos a pop) according to the bar group. The girl gets 50%. A few years back, this meant zero or nominal tip for the girl in the morning. However, as time went on, and the customer base naturally evolved into one comprising people who had only ever known the new system, the tips and girls’ expectaions increased. So it’s now pretty damn expensive.

Encouraged by the increased revenue stream and the apparent stupidity/bottomless wallets of the punters, many bars also started taking the piss in other ways, like charging 4000 pesos for a bottle of 100 peso Tanduay rum. The girls attitudes also changed, with long times becoming short times, big scenes in the room about tips becoming increasingly commonplace, and so on.

You can often get your girlie drinks deducted from the BF, in fact I would insist, but the overall cost is still high. It just ain’t what it was. So it’s a valid concern that this may be a seed of deterioration in Bangkok, and we all should do what we can to not allow it to germinate.

if other bars try and adopt this kind of rule im sure if enough people challenge it and when confronted by it stand there ground and refuse, id like to think common sense would provail and it would swiftly be dropped when the barfine takings are on there arse

i am still tickled how she had the gaul to ‘ask’ for a tip - thats thai customer service for you

I’m sorry to say that it will probably become a “T.I.T. - This Is Thailand” story. Since when has “common sense” entered into the equation in terms of Go-Go Bar pricing strategy?

I think Baccara can get away with it because they have so many Japanese punters who won’t dare to rock the boat. I just don’t want this trend to spread to Shark Bar, Midnight, Doll House, Sheeba’s etc.

    A buddy of mine mentioned that someone should post an anonymous tip on a Japanese language sex tourism website - it should read;

“Attention Fellow Tourists: It has come to our attention that there are two HIV-positive Go-Go Dancers at Baccara Bar on Soi Cowboy. We do not know which two, so please be careful…”

That should clear the place out in a hurry.

Of course, I would never dream of doing something like this.

I would simply add that on two separate occasions Bacarra padded my bill by 1000 baht. I am fortunate that I usually have a subconscious running bar tab in my head — not accurate, but close enough to know that I am being robbed. Well-seasoned bar girls have informed me that this is usually a set-up between the cashier and mamasan, who split the takings. I really blew my cool when it happened the second time, making a nice scene, which I only partly regret. I continue to go there because the hottest young girls in Cowboy work there, and I have reached a truce with the offending pig of a mamasan, but keep your eyes open on all financial matters in this bar.

The “new policy” discussed in this thread may have just been a spur-of-the-moment bit of opportunism and this policy may be news to the owner. Never heard of it myself after 50 visits or so, but then I always pass the two-drink minimum in the first five minutes.

the Pig face mamasan “Meow” works there for 9 years now and is a well off gangster ipping off money from Bar Fine, drinks and tips .when a new trick comes off from a girl she would accept as long as she get her piece of the pie. you can be sure that none of this scammed money and a big part of the takings dont appear to the boss who admits that the situation is often out of his hands even he stays there.these monkeys always come with anew trick and a lame excuse when u start to make a mess … besides the boss is a nice guy and made a nice bigger baccara bar with good show and no panties policy at all times ….riping off the farang is a sport in the entertainment industry

fof - nice handle. I get what you are saying but to say that this is out of control of the boss seems ludicrous to me. We have discussed this before on the blog many times. A lot of big bars, pubs and clubs have a farang manager on hand to specifically deal with situations like this. Meaning someone can lodge a rational complaint with someone who speaks english and deals with the problem in a rational way. The thais generally never do because they care more about face than fixing the issue or making the customer happy.

So for the boss to be present but powerless to help the situation seems rather odd to me. boss needs to fire said mamasan and deal with his staff.

smitty-i agree…i just got some update about the baccara bar
    1. a new website is out http://www.baccara-bar.com
2.it was confirmed to some friends that this policy of 2 drinks minimum is”en vogue”
i guess this should not affect the happy chaps binging “a la japonaise” with many drinks for the lady as long as she is playfull :P with you but it is more likely to refrain cheap charlies from entering ,pay the BF and F… off with a beauty without any “foreplay” or nice approach
3.in my previous message i was meaning that under the table scams go on in gogos without any possible way to see it even you stay there as a “papasan” u would not be able to spot them..and yes of course the boss is here to round up corners with customers.this boss is actually very nice and will always find a nice way to make everyone smile again in the city of angels..

still agree this policy is a bit too much

I haven’t been back to Baccara since Sept 14th and I don’t have plans to hit the place in the near future.

I’ve been “Freebirding” and to a certain extent “Discount-birding” and that’s come out a lot more satisfying than my last experience at Baccara.

Somewhere there’s a punter abroad sending cash to his lonely slapper, but he’s not around to keep her company. Tisk Tisk Tisk - will they never learn? I hope not!

Spend all night at Baccara yesterday.

About me, I’ve been in and out of Thailand for 27 years and do not go for girls that are not what I consider very high quality.

Never, would I argue about drinks and barfines in a nice club like this. This behavior is totally unacceptable in the LOS in a nice club like Baccara with beautiful hot young ladies in very cute school girl outfits dancing on a class floor wearing no panties. You might easily win the “fight” and save 300 baht, but you lose so much respect and face over something so trivial in pursuit of fresh wet beaver.

There is some very find beaver in Baccara, OBTW. I will be back tonight - I’m telling my very sexy Japanese girlfriend living in Bangkok that I’m busy on business :-) She has a body and beaver to die for, but there are some fine stars in the sky at Baccara’s that have my interest and my full, upright attention.

To each is own, one many ceiling is another mans floor! Baccara’s is the finest go-go bar I have seen in Thailand and has peaked my interest in something I was not interested in, boring agogos with less than stellar beaver.

I am Beaver Boy and Baccara’s is my new hangout.
