MTV Club by Bkk22

editor’s note: bkk22 had earlier written a review of the Sky Club. Here is another review about a less well-known venue that does not get a lot of Farang attention. Sounds fun. It brings to mind creating some sort of Off the Beaten Path section but that will have to wait for now. In the meantime - get off the beaten path. You might like it.

MTV Club is open until 2 AM.

This little gem is tucked away far from the glittering lights and the “hey handsome man” you get on that little street called Sukhumvit. Those who are adventurous or who live in Bangkok may find this write up useful. First, the location of MTV Club is not by any BTS or Subway line so a Taxi is going to be the only way to get there. It is located across from Ramkhamheang University (RU). RU, for those that do not know, has about 80,000 or so students enrolled at any given time. It is dirt cheap to study there, thus attracting students from all over the country to attend. You can take a taxi to Ramkhamheang Road and tell them to turn right on Soi 24. About 200 meters down the road you will see the MTV club sign on your right side.

In the past this was a pseudo coyote bar with a few girls dancing on stage, then they got rid of them and added a band which sucked, and now it is just a DJ playing a mix of Thai and farang music. The place is small, smelly, and they have these really annoying strobe lights everywhere. If you look at them too long you will get a headache. So why in the world would you want to visit a hole in the wall joint located about 18kms outside the city?

First, a bottle of whiskey with mixers will cost you 500 baht. Don’t pay a baht more than that. It also helps if you speak some Thai or are with someone that does. My partners in crime and I all do so we have never had a problem but a rip off is foreseeable if you can’t speak Thai.

Second, it is rammed with RU uni girls. This is no hiso Thonglor club where they could give a crap about you. This a down and dirty Ramkhamheang joint where my group has been the only farangs in the place. They will welcome you with open arms, people will cheer you and the girls will stare and whisper to each other.

This place is hit or miss but the weekend is usually a sure bet to be crowded with most if not all of the girls being from RU across the street. Good Luck!

Thanks for sharing. Always good to hear about an exciting new place to try out. Curious, do you know where these girls go after 2am? Is there a Spicy-Ramkhamheang-like club in the area? That could be a real treasure trove and I’ve been dying to hear something like: “Sure, I’ll go with you, but I have class in 3 hours so we’ll have to hurry”.

There is an MTV 2 Club on on Ramkhamheang Soi 43/1 that might do afterhours as it is tucked off of the may drag but have never ventured there. These girls are down with hitting up the usual after hours clubs, especially with a farang in tow.

I would love to hear of an afterhours joint in this area as there would be no tourist whatsoever there. A true diamond in the rough.

I did forget to mention most times I’ve been here the servers have introduced us to girls in fact they are so excited there are farangs were in there they went out of their way to get us to talk to the girls. Something that would never happen back home.

pmmp - you just want to see some uni girl hurriedly putting on her uni and rushing you out the door. Sick man. ;)

We have been hearing of a new after hours joint on Ratchada that is supposedly the new windsor - the one on soi 20. The girls at Forte last night were talking about this place. Need to find it.

I am sure if we check out MTV, soon, you would just follow a few girls to the nearest after hours joint. Tough research work!

    Cool.

I love to go to small, smelly places with annoying strobe lights miles away from the BTS.

Smitty and I are blogging live from MTV. As I write, there 4 men, 2 women, and a katoey in the place, but we’ve learned that it closes at 3.30. We’ll update again later.

3 more men and another katoey have arrived, but we remain cautiously optimistic that all of these men are waiting for an influx of women.

Well, we bailed. But all is not lost; Smitty seems to be on the verge of dating the hostess and we’ve moved on to a g-club.

sounds like a place better hit on a weekday when the uni girls just want to party near home. my guess is they migrate to rca and rachada on weekends.

j- that could be a good point as well.

This is what we have found out. The place is open daily until 3:30 am. Both the bathroom attendant and our service girl says it gets busy most every night but not until 12pm - 1 am. Then is busy until they close. So we will be back since they all said it gets full of uni girls. Not just from Ramkhamheang but from other schools in the area.

We started at Sukhumvit around 10 and absolutely no taxis would take us. We would start to say Ramkham… and they would say no way. So we got a Tuk Tuk to take us for 150 baht. It was a cool enough night and he got through traffic faster anyway. Was a fun way to see the sights.

When we went to leave our service girl told us when her birthday was and that we should come back for the party. As we walked out she asked for my number. So all is not lost. This is what I love about Thailand and Thai girls. She asked. :)

We took a taxi from there to the Whitehouse on Ratchada Soi 5 and the way the taxi guy cut over from Ramkhamheang road we saw a ton of places we need to check out.

Such a massive city with so many venues.

Whitehouse was fun. The lead singer of one of the bands is so hot.

    carry on…

yes. we got a bottle card from a friend last night and plan on checking it out. good info.

no drama on the mtv info. the place was fairly light on people at 12 and we figured if it closed at 2 then it was not too busy but the girl said they closed at 3:30 and people come later. I guess you were too drunk to know what time u left when u went there.

    ;)

b - I meant that in all jest but I could see it happening. We plan on checking renovate soon. I hear the working girl ratio is quite low. I also plan on heading back to mtv later but plan on staying later. Then will see where they go late night around that area. Plenty more research ahead.

Smitty: “We took a taxi from there to the Whitehouse on Ratchada Soi 5 and the way the taxi guy cut over from Ramkhamheang road we saw a ton of places we need to check out.”

He may have driven you across Pracha Uhtit Road. Last week, before returning to the great western wasteland, I saw several late-night venues open during a 4 am taxi ride.

BTW, many thanks to the ‘Mango nurses’ who provided me with a nice spot to pass out during your 2nd anniversary blowout. I’m much too old to think that I can follow 8 hours of land/air travel with drinking 101 proof bourbon straight on an empty stomach.

Rumor was the party was great.

dj - that may be it. I will be verifying it but we saw some club like places and what I think was another coyote venue.

the party was great and we have some photos of your siesta!

hi all, in the interests of sharing some unique far away places, recently discovered one. Place is called Juicy Bar, out Bang Kae way Rama2 (a few k’s past The Mall). Only opened about 5 weeks ago but already quite popular as there isnt much around.

Quite large inside and well fitted out. The owner is fairly hip young guy who lived in Melbourne for about 5 years. He seems to understand whats needed to get a place going. Last night he had Buddha Bless and Big Ass playing there. I know he has plans for other big name artists.

Stays open till about 3am, but fairly active from 10pm onwards. Lots of good looking girls. Quite a few PG’s last night as well.

ta - nice work. the mall you mention. U mean the mall bang kae? The place is on rama 2 or some side road? Need the details so I can check it out. I did not see it listed in the latest issue of Modern Night either.

    Is it a member club?

    Coyote club?

    thanks!

  23. 23 the-adventurer Sep 16th, 2007 at 12:08 pm

sm - its a standard bar, not member or coyote. Although the owner does employ some nice looking coyote dancers who put on a few shows during the evening. No entrance fee.

Will need to confirm exact location for you … I was merely the driver!!… but I’m fairly sure its the mall bang kae. Will get exact details later today. My recollection is as follows:

Took the expressway out (past Kasikornbank building) then onto Rama 2. Drove along for a while until we took a turn-off which takes you past the mall. A few k’s past the mall, on the same side, you will see the sign for juicy bar prominently displayed. After you see it, you need to do a u-turn under the bridge and come around next to it.

Went to MTV2 on Rhamkhamhaeng soi 43 last night. It doesn’t appear to be a club, rather a karaoke joint. Cute attendants and plenty of nice girls about although most of them were shut away in their private rooms. Some truly apalling singing going on too. Guess it might be possible to be invited into a private room although I was already with two girls. Left around 1am but was told it stays open late and gets busier.

RRR … doubt we are talking same place, as this one is newly opened. Owner spent a great deal of money doing it up. Anyway, not a ladyboy in sight, but plenty of young attractive and apparently single ladies. In a crowd of a few hundred people, I noticed only one other farang. Suspect you would need to speak thai at least partially to pull there though …
