editor’s note: Shuttlecock being a frequent contributor wrote a post up that is more about looking for information and advice rather than a normal information based post. I figure that is what the community and the blog is for - helping each other out. So here it goes.
There is smatterings of very helpful Tid bits of information from all of these posts but I wonder if I could ask them directly of you ‘old hands’ and in turn it may help others like me to get some information in one post.
A couple of my favorite night spots are at Siam - Hard Rock and CM2.. it sounds like Spicy or Spice is in the running as a great place to PU freelancers..

I am a little older so would like somewhere with a little class , nice surroundings etc.. nothing too cramped, half decent music, and a reasonable selection of attractive women.. not much to ask for. CM2 IMHO seems to fit this criteria but you cant keep going to the same place. Soi 33 sounds like an idea but I will not be not paying 1500 BF.
While on the subject of picking up freelancers . is it just hit and miss?.. how do you weed out the dead fish?.. I took a TG from Tilac in Cowboy and at the club she was hot.. all over me ..promising the best of times.. but it was like she transformed into a different person once we left the premises.. even bitching about the 400 mtr walk back to my hotel.. she sensed that it pissed me off and within a split second was back to the nice TG again, holding my hand etc.. should have read the signs and dumped her ass then..
She was what we call in Australia a ‘Dead Root’ .. I know she enjoyed it because she woke up for a while.. Paid her for LT but let her go after the first coming!
I think I do all the right things at these places and ask all the right Q’ … even try to establish what sort of things we can do.. set boundaries and how many times etc.. but I am yet to have a ‘Wild Time’
The best I had was a TG FL from CM2 and she worked fairly hard but was a little disappointing when naked as she had a kid and the Bra was doing all the work and I could have played snakes and ladders on her stretch marks.. a little cruel but I am the one paying!
Any tips gratefully received. I am always working on a time frame of 4 days or so , therefore never have enough time to establish a GFE, and anyway that’s not what I want really.
Is there any point in finding the best looking Gogo girl ( I have seen some beauties at long Gun etc ) and BFing her if she just looks good and doesn’t perform!

I have sampled some various oily’s at nondescript places and am a bit tired of the polo shirt clad rub down in a room with three other blokes separated by hospital curtains .. wondering if they are getting a better massage than me!… Don’t get me wrong I like a good oily but want something SPECIAL.
Just a friendly request for a recommendation or two..
I guess I’ll start this off. First, there is way to much info to talk about but I will touch on a few points. First, Spicy the late night place not too far from both Siam and Silom. First, if you going there from eithr Siam or Silom don’t pay for the taxi! Tell them free and most will agree because they are getting a kickback. I learned this from an honest taxu who told me taxis won’t charge you and as there is a high supply of taxis its not hard to find one to take you for free. This is a good place to solo dive if you want. Tons of girls and they will no doubt ask if you came alone. You can opt for the 300 baht door charge which gets you one drink or you can pony up 1500 for a bottle of 100 pipers and get up to five people in. I prefer getting a bottle as you don’t have to walk to the bar, you can easily offer girls drinks and if you don’t finish you can leave it at the bar and come back, not having to pay cover again. Spicy, quite simply is always slammed with girls. There are FL and normal girls and ladyboys. I have found it that the normal girls will usually keep to themselves and their group. FL are usually more aggressive. The normal girls I have (and have gotten solid proof they in fact have these jobs) have done the following jobs: ticket agent for Thai, accounting department for textile company, ABAC student!, and i even have met the girl that cuts my hair (she works at a salon in Paragon).
That being said its possible to meet normal girls there, but there are tons of FL also so that is always an option. A classic line from one of my friends is “I really like you, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable paying you.”
Another place is the club at the Conrad called Club 87 or something like that. I have been there once. It is quite classy but I didn’t spend enough time there to comment on the scene.
Another less obvious place would be the Londoner on Wednesday nights as its ladies night. There are usually lots of girls and its quite easy to meet them. The Londoner is on Suk 33 and you can meet both FL and normal girls. Age here doesn’t matter and its a very mixed scene.

Well I have never been to Spice, but I am going to say Spicy is the place to go right now. Yes it’s only a late night. I have been there at 12 or 12:30 and been the only people in the bar. Around 1 people start to trickle in and by 2 it starts getting jammed. I like to get there a bit earlier to get a good table. I think the table location matters. The tables closest to the doors, IMO are the worst while in the middle or back or around the podiums are the best. It is gets you right in the middle of the action and you usually end up surrounded by girls.

On the subject of picking up freelancers, I think that good sex is only guaranteed when a girl really likes you.It doesn’t matter where they work. In my contacts with girls in Thailand i’ve had 20% Dead Root, 50% average sex and 30% great sex.Concerning the classy clubs and special massages, I’m sorry but I can’t help you there. About a soapie, last time I went to a massage parlour on Ratchadapisek Rd, can’t remember the name tough. The place was a bit run down. They had about 50 ladies in the fishbowl and the price was 1500 Baht, but I wouldn’t call it a winner. There used to be a nice place on New Pethburi Rd called Atami, walking distance from the Prince hotel, but I don’t know if it still exists.

You pay for what you get, but you might not get what you pay for. With freelancers, it’s same/same. You can run all of the sophisticated analysis you want in order to refine your approach, but in the end it’s: practice, practice, practice. When you find one that can clean the crank of a ten year old car, you just hit paydirt.

I have always liked the display on stage at Long Gun. But it was difficult to book them off during show-times.
So one night I went early (just opened) and was able to take out a real stunner for a short time.
She didn’t perform as sexily in my room as she did on stage but if you fantasize a lot about shagging magazine models then it’s nice to have the real thing for a change. And the price was the same as any of the less beautiful ones and not the inflated price that the (I hate this term) superstars charge.

They may not be the best looking in the bunch, but Eden on Soi 7/1.
A little daunting maybe, but they really do perform.
Blue pills might be worth it in stretching your value for money.

FYI. I’ve taken many friends of different ages to the After Hours Clubs. The guys older than 45 or so tend to not like them as much as the younger guys. A quick roundup of the AH joints:
o Spicy on Ron Muan Soi 1 - Wild FL club scene
o Spice on Suk Soi 11 - Ambassador Hotel - FL club scene
o Deo Club Suk Soi 5 (above Foodland) - Same owners Boss/Spicy but not popular yet
o Boss by Big C - Newly renovated wild FL club scene
o Lucky off Phetchaburi - Small, Crazy FL disco goes until Noon the next day
o Tunnel on Lang Suan Soi 5 - Hip Club Scene. More legit girls but many working girls too. Definitely not shooting fish in the barrel
o Suk Soi 11 Hip Hop Club 3rd Floor - Crack Den goes until 9am
o OA Club by Pratunaam (not sure if still open) - mostly Thai club scene
o After on Patpong 2 - Wild FL club scene, younger party goers
o Tequila Dragon on Suk Soi 7/1 (end of block) - small FL club scene
Sin Club on Suk Soi 4
o Pennyblack on Soi Cowboy - Used to be huge but now mostly Thai Pool scene
o Sanook Bar in the Tunnel betw Suk Soi 5 and 7 - Pool mostly
o Josephine’s 4th floor Suk Soi 1 Beer Bar Complex (not sure if still open)
o Windsor Hotel on Suk Soi 20 - Huge and packed. Mostly Thai Club Scene. Not many FLs
There may be a few more but that’s just off the top of my head. I will provide a full list with better addresses in the next Weekly.
What I wanted to say was that going to these is not like shooting fish in a barrel like the GoGo’s/BeerBars. CM2 is a little easier and civilized and most of the girls there are Freelancers looking to hook up. The After Hours clubs are more of a mix of girls looking and girls kind of looking and girls not looking. Many of them are more picky looking for guys to party with and require some work. Also, many younger guys at Spicy and the others to deal with.
So, the older friends I take that aren’t into the heavy club scene and that have to work for it a bit with unpredictable girls tend to dislike the scene. Spice on Suk Soi 11 is the closest to CM2 in the AH scene so my guess is that you will like Spice and not like Spicy. Either way, avoid Friday and Saturday at either Spice or Spicy. The less popular places are better.

Some younger girls (18-22) working in Nana and Cowboy bars have told me they like to do STs with older guys for the dosh, then use their earnings to go to Spicys, Spice Club, etc. to hook up with a ‘young boy’ for fun, sometimes closing the deal by telling them “not give money me” if they are hot for a specific young stud.
Not any less predatory than us punters.

I don’t recommend it as an after hours place. It as the same owner as Long Gun & Rawhide. Management encourage the dancers to go there after closing (2am). Maybe 15-20 show up on any night. Some with customers but most without. A few girls from other bars bring customers in but I don’t think single TGs are encouraged.
There is no point in going before 2am - it’s dead. The close at 4am.
Penny Black is also a hotel so short time rooms are convenient.
So far so good - the LG and RH girls who show up like to party and play pool and if you want a companion to go dancing with then they are great.
Also the food from the kitchen is pretty good for the time of night. I am partial to their cashew chicken.
BUT - the owners consider it an extension of LG & RH. Thus they charge barfines if you want to take one of the dancers out. There’s always a couple of mamasans there.
So unless you have a burning desire for a LG or RH girl and could’t make it by closing, or are need a late night fix of cashew chicken I think there are many better choices discussed here.

Arthur: Agreed on PennyBlack not being a good After Hours place, thanks for the info. It was “The” After Hours place 2 years ago but now it’s HORRIBLE. Last time I was there a girl gave me the finger for looking at her funny. Mostly rude Cowboy workers who just want to do their own thing.

The upstairs at Suzie Wong’s is still open during business hours obviously but last report I got was it’s no longer open After Hours. They used to do a Lesbian show every hour After Hours.
The Old Dutch also used to go After Hours, also around World Cup last year, but aren’t doing After Hours anymore either. Same owner as Suzie’s.
Will check on these two and update if they are still doing After Hours.

Shuttlecock, I think what you are basically after is the answer to the question: Other than CM2 and Hard Rock in Siam Square area (and the after-hour clubs), what are good freelance locations in Bangkok that are classy, half-decent music, where a guy over 40 does not feel out of place?
Spassos in Grand Hyatt Erawan (bit more classy than CM2, but same kind of girls)and similar place is Park 97 in Conrad Hotel
Q Bar on Soi 11 (more freelancers these days than regular girls)
For sure-bet plenty of choice, but not classy, you can also check out:
Angels disco in Nana Hotel (probably best of all for quantity and cost of freelancers)
Thermae coffee shop on Sukhumvit (but absolutely not classy!)
Various beer bar areas, such as Queens Park Plaza on Soi 22 or Gullivers on Soi 5
There are hundreds of other clubs and bars in Bangkok, and the g-clubs too, but for visitor not looking for GFE but good freelancer experience, I think that list just about covers it.
As for your other question Shuttlecock on how to pick a good performing FL….I think you are right in saying it is just hit and miss. Usually, the best looking girls in these clubs are not the best performers.
But based on what you asked for, it seems to me that you fit the Soi 33 profile perfectly….if you can get over the 1500bht bar fine issue.

I guess I am so old jaded and cynical now that i can’t be arsed chasing girls BGs FLs or whatever……or even talking to them actually..It’s a high price to pay for sex……..especially in BK….pattaya is a different matter…. so anyway when i am in BK I use the bath house massage parlour route and am rarely dissatisfied………just check em out on the net first .then..go look at the photo album at the parlour talk quietly and respectfully to the mammasan…………choose a girl………..or two………..order the VIp room/service if avaialbe……..make em laugh with speaking terrible thai, bad puns and act like a deranged clown and take their numbers if you feel so inclined……..usually good sex or very good……….or excellent. i have/do a walkabout from Soi 33 to SOi 7 that takes in 12 or 13 parlours………checked most of them out…………..but the best …….? It was last year i did my last walkaabout………i will repeat this year…..I do two a day…………..however i dont know about the scene away from sukumvit though i will be visiting poisedon and one or two places i went to nearly two decades ago……..just hope the chicks have changed……………I am open to suggestion ..have never been to tulip……….

Just had another visit to BKK and Tulip was first on the list (kinda liked it!).. will do a complete trip report soon, but there I have mixed comments .. but Sandman I generally agree with you.. sick of the pretend pick up shit.. and was actually abused at Gulliver’s by a hag because I did not respond the way she expected.. more soon…
