editor’s note: The first time. Remember that? Nothing is really like it since you are not sure where to go and what to do. Over time Bangkok can actually get better in my opinion but still fun to see it through someone who is experiencing it for their first time.
In the beginning……Freelancers
First night .
stayed in Omni on Soi 4 . talk about being thrown in the deep end.. my taxi took me through the soi and it was about midnight.. I though I was a kid in a candy store .. could not wait to check in and get out!…
it was fun discovering but I was truly a newbie and the only thing I knew was what I had read online, so of course I thought I knew how it all worked .
phew was I wrong.
Ended up walking for miles just taking all the soi’s in .. looking down the side streets and wondering excitedly what was behind all the doors and under the flashing lights.. It was like I was in a timeless zone..
but of course I wasn’t and did not know that it was all about to shut in my face.. I headed on back towards ‘home’ and thought I would take in NEP.. and as I got back to soi 4 there was a sea of women pouring out of all the venues like the pussy tide was going out!… and here I was a horny one eyed eel swimming against it!…
Now I am fairly outgoing , but I have this shy side that keeps getting in the way sometimes, so here was this ocean of what I thought was available nubile women all looking about aimlessly .. I did not know whether there was some big hooker bus coming or if their dads were coming to pick them up after work!.. But I could not find it in me to approach them..
Some were knockouts and some only so so.. I was said hello to a few times but I was hoping for something a bit more overt.. seems funny saying it now but one of those sexy half dressed girls need to be a bit more pushy to get this fresh farang!…
anyway about 2am I was almost back to the hotel and was going to get a good nights sleep and figure out a better battle plan when I wasn’t so jet lagged and dopey. I passed this last group of people and this young girl says hello in such I nice way I actually stopped in my tracks.. She was very straight forward and said ‘we are lonely can you please take us to your room’
I turned around and she had a lovely looking friend there.
I did some quick thinking and thought .. I am tired and I don’t really know what I am doing.. I didn’t want to end up on a newspaper headline!… but my bigger brain was at half mast and we all know how sometimes they take charge..
I must say my negotiation skills were great because I figured I am probably their last chance for some cash so we agreed to ST 1000 for both. as we headed off there was another in the shadows who made such a fuss about being left on her own that we negotiated for all 3 for 1500. she did nothing for me and was way too skinny , but I don’t mind an audience ..
My heart was in my throat as we all made a sight walking into the hotel.. 3 hours on the ground and 3 women already.. I was worried there would be a scene at the reception but absolutely no problems .. just left their ID..
Boy I thought , I am in heaven.
We got into the room and they were bummed that it was no smoking.. big deal I hate the shit and would have kicked them out if they lit up..
I must say my fantasy took a little beating from then on.. it was not like the dream sex I had already played out in my mind. It was not ’sexy’ or ‘erotic’.. It was three rather young friends chatting and giggling and going through a few motions to get the cash..
I took the best into the shower.. I was going to make sure they were all clean.. Long story short. I ended up servicing all three as I was determined to do but I was so tired and they were so ordinary
I was happy to see them go.. and at 1500 it wasn’t an expensive lesson. I have had a another group session at Eden that was ordinary and disappointing too.
how do you find 2 or 3 girls that are into each other?.. they may kiss and fondle to get you to the room then its all business.. I am going back soon and have decided to get my 3 some with 2 girls who will either get into or act it out so as I don’t know the difference..

Another memory springs to mind……. 1st time I barfined a girl…
Soi Cowboy was the venue…. the little lovely wanted a ‘feeding’ (which I as told is part of the ‘deal’) so we went to some little eating house, god knows where?. We didn’t talk much as my new companion was glued to her phone for the best part of 10 mins.
- Obviously I didn’t/don’t speak Thai… but thinking back, I reckon it would have translated to “I’ve got a newbie!”
Once we arrived at the restaurant we sat down for a nice Thai meal.
To our ’surprise’, about 5 of her mates turned up?! What a coincidence!?! It was like feeding time at the zoo!!
My girl ended up drinking and eating so much that she was sick everywhere. Her mates all then helped to carry her home. - Nice of them.
So there I was.. sitting at a table with some kind of fishy smelling monsters all over it,.. loads of dinks which had only been ’sipped’ and a whopping great bill. Not forgetting the puddle of puke by my feet.
On the ‘up-side’.. as I sat there drinking the left over green ‘Breezers’ (shit, I paid for it, why not?) one of the girls came back and said she felt bad that I was ‘newbie’ and left on my own. She stayed with me a while and told me a lot of the ‘tricks’ the girls get upto, and how I’d fallen for a classic!
I did take her back to the Omni and let her ‘work-off’ her dinner
That was over 2 years ago. I still see the girl to say ‘hello’ to every month. I think I’ll ask her what happend to her drunken mate, and remind her I paid her bar that night…?

boy o boy….its seems that Nana & Cowboy seem a bit more sleazy. Been to soi 33 and there the girls seem more upfront. lets say come across abit more trust worthy. Bar fines here abit more 1500bht. st 2000 and lt 3000. Napoleon had a few good ones and so did livingstones. any comments on soi 33 i dont know about?

It was ‘93 Patpong, clueless about the girls scene but after a few beers and several female approaches all became obvious and can remember 1st one like yesterday, young and hot.
In-fact 2 years ago went back to same bar for beers. It had changed, but the memories started flowing. And believe it or not the very same girl from ‘93 actually came in with an american and sat down at the table next to me. Just couldn’t believe it and checked her out for about 45 minutes before I was certain, there was no doubt it was her. First time on Soi 4 stayed at Nana Hotel and did not notice/find Nana Plaza during 2 day stay. Now try and top that for being naive?? Although found plenty in the hotel.

My experiences with the Nana car par park women have been a classic example of how the balance of power can shift in the matter of an hour or so.
Walking around the car park soon after NEP closes is a massive power trip and ego massage for any red blooded male. All those women milling around you eager to catch your every half glance, looking oh so meek and humble, with those pleading eyes ‘please, please pick me’.
These women are definitely keen but unfortunately there are very few ‘reasonables’ and so you linger and waste a lot of time choosing until you finally settle for something which you think will be half decent. However, back in your room the roles have suddenly reversed. They know that you don’t want to go to the trouble of kicking them out of the room, putting your clothes back on and then going back out to the car park to start the trawl over again.
So out comes the list of things that they won’t do (oral without condom, CIM, sex more than once, etc, etc) and the things that they want (helping themselves to drinks from the drinks cabinet, ordering food on room service, a couple of hundred baht extra for the taxi because for some reason we always tend to give them money in 1000/500 baht notes).
They will often suggest a threesome which sounds good for you ( but it is good for them because there is safety in numbers). However once in the room with two girls they will jabber away in Thai which is hardly sexy for you (if you don’t understand the language) and always completely fail to understand that the main reason why guys go for a threesome is because they enjoy the thought of two girls working on them at the same time plussome lesbian stuff thrown in - hopefully.
These women are never interested in long time. Not even if I pick them up at 3 or 4 in the morning and am willing to pay a long time rate for them to stay in the same bed as me after sex until 9 or 10 in the morning - just for the GFE. They know that we will not pay double the short time rate (1000/1500 baht) for long time (we may offer 2000/2500 baht for long time) so they would prefer to go back out and get another short time in or get some sleep in their rooms so that they can be ready for their day time job or a short time in the afternoon. If they stay with you even though it may be in a nice hotel room there is always the danger of you wanting sex periodically through the night.
They may say 2 hours for short time but as soon as you pop ( which may be after 45 minutes) they are gone.

first time for me was 1978. i stayed at the Honey cause that’s where everyone stayed. I met up with some Ozzie coal miners who were old hands in BKK. they basically took me under their wing and led me to Cowboy. not many bars back then, but the first one i went into (Cowboys of course) i was hooked up with a big titted thing and that was it. i think i paid her like 200 baht. 30 years later and i’m still here.

daywalker - it takes time to get the game down but we all have to learn it. hopefully some newbies will read the blog and can get around these snares.
will - I think in general you could say it is all sleazy I guess. the girls on soi 33 wear dresses and may carry themselves better but you can waltz in there and pay bar and go home just the same as u can on cowboy. I think it all depends on what makes u comfortable. For me - I hardly pay a bar and pull. Been months. I love cowboy for the nudity. I love nana for the madness contained in one complex. Soi 33 has some nice places to shoot pool and talk with some nice girls. Of course one of the identical twins has moved on but I still hang with her sister.
Honestly each place will come down to your individual experience. My problem is soi 33 with the overinflated bar fines and rates can sometime throw the head to overhead ratio out of whack but then other times you may meet your idea of a porn star there.
Mike - Spot on. Great advice and generally how I feel about the situation around the soi 4 corridor.

First day ahh….. many moons ago arrived in Soi 4 and God was it hot. Settled in, cold beer etc. Walked out that night to a scene from Dante’s sevnth circle of hell. Loads of fat tattooed beer bellied farangs running around in their vests with huge water pistols and young drunken Thais in pick ups throwing water at me and young pissed up suburban Brits trying to smear flour on my face
I had travelled a lot but what the hell was this mayhem?
Made it as far as the old Bus Stop and beat a hasty retreat.
Went back to enjoy Nana Disco if memory serves.
Oh by the way it was the very first day of Songkran which I had never heard of! Welcome to Amazing Thailand. First days eh!!!!!!

Pattaya 2000 for a long weekend was my first dabble into the dark side.
Had a dreadful threesome (you know the kind where one girl hides in the toilet while the other is going through the motions) because I made the schoolboy error in Baby A-Go-Go of totally shopping looks over attitude.
Then I had an experienced tattooed filth warrior who really knew what she was doing and did take good care of me, but was after 2000 baht a day for a week with me in Samui. No ta.
The best time I had on that trip was the soapies. Sabais Land, Dee & Rooms. What a fantastic refuge from the madness of pattaya and great service too.

smitty, so what bars do you recommend on Soi 33. Was there in may this year and the bars seemed a bit quite but the good thing in Soi 33 bars is you can talk to your friends without screaming, play pool and converse in broken english with the girls. Must admit we felt at ease in most of the bars but Christies mamasam was pushy in trying to hook you up with a girl. Another advantage is having the Novotel hotel on the doorstep so you can avoid sitting in traffic. Visited CM2 which is like going to the best sweet shop on earth BUT dint pick a freelancer instead took girl from soi 33. Any other goods clubs one can recommend??

For soi 33 I pretty much only go to lookie lookie and livingstons. That is about it. The rest of Soi 33 is pretty much a lost cause in my book but from time to time you will find girls you might like in any bar.

If you want to take a girl out from Soi 33 to clubs where she will genuinely have fun, be impressed, and want to go again - do NOT take her to CM2, Angels, Q Bar, Hard Rock or any other club full of freelancers! They will not appreciate it….
Also - if you are, how can I say this politely, over the age of 30 and avoid looking at yourself in the mirror if you can help it then I’d also avoid taking them to just about any of the RCA clubs or other ‘hot’ clubs in that are currently in favor with the young Thai set. You will both get stared at a lot and she will hear a lot of nasty comments that you won’t understand.
So - where does that leave?
A few suggestions:
Santika on Ekamai (which is Sukhumvit Soi 63 - and Santika is close to Ekamai Soi 11). Huge, packed most nights, great crowd, mixed with some farangs of various ages, friendly, superb bands and no working girls. Thai girls love this place.
Colliseum on Sukhumvit close to Thong-Lo BTS (on the even soi side of the street). Also huge, has various Thai acts (comedians, singers, dancers, katoeys, etc) and decent food. This is a very Thai style place, but good fun and you will always see a few farangs in here and they welcome farangs.
Bed Supperclub on Sukhumvit Soi 11 (far up the Soi on the right side - place looks like a spaceship has landed). Mixed crowd, lots of farangs, models, some hi-so Thais, even just a few working girls (but not many, and they are discrete).
For a complete change of scene you can also try some of the clubs around Khao San Road, but it is far from Sukhumvit Soi 33.
After hours try Spicy or the club under the Windsor Hotel on Soi 20.
I used to go to Soi 33 a lot, but go rarely now. The road is not what it once was. Livingstones is not bad (and good place to eat by the lit-up pool) Lookie Lookie is usually busy, Office bar is good to watch sport…

Whoops - sorry about that - then Hollywood in Ratchada Soi 8 is a similar alternative, or Dance Fever next to it. But both are more Thai-only scene than Colliseum was….Oh well….Smitty is right, need to get out more…!
