Greetings and Salutations. More interesting times here in Thailand. As usual it looks bad on TV and one person did get killed in a recent standoff which sucks but life goes on as it did before. Business dies down for a bit of course but then slowly gets back to normal.
You can read your favorite local news sources and this post for more information but basically a group called PAD backed by some heavy hitters is trying to force the recently elected pro-Thaksin team, like the PM, out of power. Looks like it’s working too. We’ll see how it goes but expect more of the same for a while.
Life in the bar hasn’t really change much. Political unrest just gives people one more thing to talk about over a beer. A quick diversion and then it’s back to the most important task at hand, sex. Luckily, the current instability combined with low season are perfect ingredients for some vibrant P4P action.
I was sent this link from a friend. I’m not sure how long the link will last but it’s basically a hidden camera view of selecting a lady in a massage parlour in Macau.
I thought about a few things after I saw this. First, for those who haven’t experienced something like this it must be completely and utterly unbelievable. Sorry disbelievers, it’s very real and even though this is Macau many such places exist here in Thailand as well.
I next thought about how despite the instability it’s nice that these places just keep rolling on. From the Models Club in Poseidon to the sidewalks of Sukhumvit Road, I’m happy to report that P4P largely remains unaffected here…and thank goodness for that.

Patpong
Went to the opening of the new Parkbridge Bar in Patpong a few weeks back. If you are on Patpong 2 and standing in front of Foodland just look up. There you will see the new bar. It was built over Patpong 2 connecting Patpong buildings with the adjacent Parking structure. It’s a bridge between the two buildings with a hip bar in the middle basically. They have DJ nights to attract folks but not sure if it will catch on given it’s location. I hope it does considering the mostly shite that Patpong has to offer. Take the Elevator across the street from Foodland to the 3rd floor.
Visited Safari at 7:30pm. I mention the time because the girls don’t dance on stage until 8:00pm and not a second sooner. So, they just sit around staring at you all bored until then. Would it really kill them to have a girl or two dancing before 8:00pm? I used to really like this place but my last three or four visits have been pretty disappointing. Not sure what happened.
Hopped around to the various GoGos. Pretty dull and lifeless compared to Cowboy but you never know so it’s fun popping in for a drink. Never go upstairs Newbies, except for Kangaroo of course. Stopped in the half-ladies/half-ladyboy GoGo of which I always forget the name of. I safely landed a girl I’ve met here before and then helped instigate a little touchy-feely session between my somewhat homophobic buddy and a cut Ladyboy he was being seduced by. A simple “he’s shy” whispered to the Ladyboy seemed to do the trick. Funny thing is he didn’t back away and even got a few squeezes in. All good fun.
Soi Cowboy
Shark GoGo. Always a safe bet. As usual the dancers are wearing their shear see-through outfits. The lineup was strong, also as usual. Surely the most consistent GoGo on Cowboy.
Black and White GoGo. (not sure of the new name yet) It’s being turned into another expensive neon mess like the rest of this owner’s bars, see Spice Girls and Dejavu. Coyote Dancers are now part of the lineup. Drinks are 200 for them and you can’t barfine them. Woohoo! They are above average looking but carry attitude so no reason to waste time there. I won’t be back anytime soon.
Apache. Very weak lineup. Scary and aggressive too.
Dejavu. A few cuties but expensive and no real atmosphere. Boring really.
Cocktail Club GoGo. One hot girl with an attitude and BBB confirmed it, no BJs in the bathroom anymore.
Pedro’s. This place is actually located around the block on Sukhumvit Road, between 23 and Asok. What a train wreck this place is. Although, we were pretty drunk so we enjoyed the wreckage. There was this band upstairs playing over the first floor that was, well, pretty sad actually. Nobody was in the bar but they braved on in a very serious and disturbing manner. It was Rock and Roll at the end of it’s life. Coupled with the four or five “aged” bargirls there it’s a place to skip, unless you are reallllly wasted.

Nothing new to report this week.

- Had a pretty wild customer birthday party this past Monday. About twenty women and a few guys celebrating their friend’s birthday. It only got a little out of control thankfully. A cake fight, a passed out drunk girl, and a domestic disturbance, but that was it. FYI, we also do weddings and funerals.
- Breakfast is now served. Free Wifi meet the Mango McMUFFin. No need to ever work in the Office again.
- We lost again this week in the Bar Pool League. We are now 0-4. We suck worse than last week.
- Next Party: September 5th. Bloggers Appreciation Night. Click here for more information.

I JUST got home from Nana Plaza and was going to send you a small report for the weekly but… the weekly was already posted.
A-GO-GO
I believe it was last week that you said the girls upstairs at Mandarin were dancing with their knickers on. I can reliably report that tonight between 11 pm and midnight they were dancing topless without knickers.
Seem to be two squads upstairs. Squad 1 is mostly tiny girls around 40 kg who have lots of playful energy to burn. Squad 2 is slightly more ‘normal’ sized on the whole (bar one stick-thin girl with a pitifully small but sagging chest) and about half of the 2-squad dance with their backs to the punters and arms crossed over their boobies, rather defeating the point of going topless. The other half show off their niblets quite proudly, so not a total loss.
Overall, Mandarin (tonight at least) was back to it’s former glory of a year ago. One girl on the ground floor in a bikini continues to capture my interest. She wears #34, and she’s been dancing there for a while. A tiny slip of a girl who probably weighs all of 40 kilos but manages an hourglass figure anyway. She has an interesting tattoo that wraps around her left breast… slightly offputting to me, but if you like tattoos and spinners then you might love this girl.
G-CLUB
I went into Resort last week on Friday night, arriving around midnight and getting a decent seat at the bar with a great view of the girls. The music was much improved against what I’d heard on my first visit there around 6 months ago. Thirty minutes later it became a madhouse and I understood why ssB always says to avoid it on the weekends.
I planned to go back to Resort with a mate tonight, but he had a tough week at work and bailed. I was pretty drunk when I was there last week but the lineup of coyote dancers looked pretty good. I’ll try to get in next week on a Monday or Wednesday for a more comprehensive report.
Hit the Sky Club on the weekend, popping in for the last thirty minutes they were open. I sat by myself and worked on my bottle of whiskey. The mamasan came over, poured a glass of soda water, took a sip and walked away. She came back 15 minutes later to give me the bill for her 270 baht drink, which I refused to pay.
I like the music there, but the cab ride is a bit far for a casual drop in, and if I have to pay 270 baht for the mamasan just for walking in the door then it looks a LOT less appealing.
RESTAURANTS
I ate at the Duke of Wellington twice this week, and I can reaffirm that the Big Duke burger with English Chips remains a great choice for the hungry man. Great prices on pints of beer make it one of the best value places to drink in Silom and the free wifi works a treat. I managed to get several hours worth of work done in two afternoons.
Coyote Restaurant on Sukhumvit (near Soi 33) has a good lunch menu — 199 baht for a soup or salad plus a main course. Today I ate the Chicken Burrito with prawn bisque soup. The soup was not a generous portion, but it was more than made up for by the excellent burrito.
Coyotes has ladies night from 6 to 8 pm on Thursdays with free margaritas for the girls. Happy hour is 2 for 1 on Margaritas and Beer: Sunday to Friday 3 to 7 pm AND 10pm to midnight, plush 11am to 8pm AND 10 pm to midnight on Saturday. Fantastic value, as they serve PINTS of margarita for 175 baht. At 2-4-1, 350 baht buys you half a gallon of well-made and potent margarita… enough to put most people into a coma.
My favorite Coyote regular menu item is the Firehouse Chile… Priced around 300 baht it looks expensive until you start to eat it. Fantastic! Also, probably the best nachos in town.

Went to the soi 7 beergarden yesterday. I know there are always a lot of rough ones in there but yesterday the crowd was unusually hideous and full of attitude. Judging by the low number of customers in there and large numbers in the pool bars (which were far more entertaining) I wasn’t the only one who thought so.

The Doll House is empty as if there had been a Coup there…
The Shark is alive and kicking.
Barfine at the Long Gun moved from 500 to 550 baht, or have I been robbed???

And the barfine at Rawhide is 600B for all girls, not just the A Team as before.
The Beer Garden seems to be in a deadly embrace. The good looking girls are not going because there aren’t any customers. The customers going because the only girls there are ugly. Hopefully the good ones are going to Big Mango.
Two of my Beer Garden friends said they are going home for a few weeks to save money.
PS I’m using Google Chrome. Works well most of the time.

Good to know Nana and Cowboy are rockin’ on as if nothing is happening in political circles. We’ll be back soon.
Wish you hadn’t put that link into the Weekly though. Wasted another 20 minutes looking at movies from soapy.com that were featured there. Happy ending in those flicks is no value at all compared to what Wan and Na Na from Ring Bar deliver…
thank Buddah for the LOS

@Artful: Ahh, Google Chrome. Wish I could use it but I’m on a Mac. Oh well. As a part-time developer it sucks to have another browser. It’s hard enough with just Firefox, Explorer, and Safari to make sure applications run the same. Now add another one.
HOWEVER, Chrome looks to be a better browser all the way around than IE so hopefully it will steer users away from IE, which would be for their own good. IE Sucks and has always sucked. Microsoft’s worst software developed ever, by far. Chrome has a huge advantage in that it can start from scratch and get it right. Reliability, Scalability, Compatibility, and Performance were all top priorities.
I’ve been using Mozilla’s Firefox for years and never had a virus and never have to run anti-virus software. That was on Windows too. Now that I’m on a Mac, using Firefox is the same, no viruses.
With IE it’s a constant battle to keep your machine clean. Google’s Chrome promises the same experience as Firefox and even credits Mozilla for ideas it used in Chrome to be more secure. Go Chrome, Go Firefox, Die IE Die.

After Hours Info: I got the news from a very reliable source that Tunnel is back open as of last night and has an agreement with the police that they can now stay open until 5 am. Not verified as of yet but will get the low down tonight….or tomorrow morning I guess.
I know firsthand that the nightclubs on Suk Soi 11 are now getting to stay open to 3 and the ladies at Twisted are getting much better as the owner has dished out a bunch of “Gold” cards that get the girls some kind of discount or free entry. The trick is lifting the card from the girl before you give her the boot after finishing up. The downside is I was actually quoted 5K for a girl I banged about 5 years ago out of Q-Bar.

I had a wander around Cowboy last night. One of my favourite bars has always been Suzi Wong, but last night it was pretty empty, shame really because there were some lookers there. I spoke to some of the staff and they told me that the owner is thinking of parting with some cash for a re-furb,I’ll believe it when I see it. I ended the night in the Cocktail Club where I recieved a double BBBJ out back, both girls were above average (looks and technique), so the service IS still available.
I very much agree with the comment about Safari.
Safari was the first bar I ever went to in Thailand, it holds many happy memories for me. My last few visits there have been very disappointing, I hope things improve.
3amigos, sorry to piss on your parade but I think Wan has moved on.
I was in there yesterday, and noticed one or two new lookers, plus, there is always Jai, who gives very goo value for money.

Thanks for the updates guys. Great to hear about the Tunnel being open again.
Another After Hours Update, Spice Club on Soi 11 is now open until 5am as well. Seems things are slipping back which is great news.

Excellent news about ‘Le Tunnel’. Now I won’t have to worry about bumping into any French people as this is where they’ll all be.

Mallorca Mango update - the sun has been shining all week in the Med, with a few breaks in the sky when a British beached whale waddles by. Beer prices in English bars running at 4.50 euro’s a pint. In a ‘posh’ bar, prices pushing to 6.50 euro’s a pint! Cheap na! P4P action is zero, unless a 200kg divorced mother of twenty, who is a diamond on Karaoke fits your bill! Only costs six Smirnoff ice by my reckoning. I have seen some lovely yachts though. Back to the whale watching for me.

BBB,
I don’t understand?????
I have been given BBBJ’s from 3 different girls in Cocktail Club.
All I do is go in, sit down, buy a beer and a lady drink…….
next thing I know, I’m out back with trousers round ankles, with a girly attached to my todger.

pmmp: Regarding Chrome - I never had a reason to stop using Firefox. I downloaded it out of curiosity. Like most of us in Thailand my performance is limited by the network bandwidth, not the browser, so I don’t see any performance difference.
Something’s up with the Flash plugin. On pages like NYTimes.com it starts to use 90% of the CPU just displaying an ad. That’s a great chance to use the Chrome Task Manager to terminate the process. Flickr has a Flash photo uploader that similarly consumes CPU cycles for no apparent purpose. Teething troubles.
Enough of being nerdly - I’m going to check the clubs in Rachada with my wife and her uni friends. The apartment looks like a salon now. I’ll report anything notable. I think the Thai pub scene is more stable than Cowboy, Nana etc. so I don’t expect any changes.

Yeah Doc, I agree, but the evening gowns can hide stretch marks too.

@pmmp (and all Mac users):
http://www.opensourcemac.org/
Aggregator-link to OSS for the Mac, covers all the basics plus a lot of obscure apps that work beautifully.
My picks:
- Miro (multimedia-player)
- Handbrake (video codec, presets for iPhone and many more)
- Camino (from Mozilla, essentially an OS X-optimized version of Firefox. Our web designer swears by this browser)
- Senuti and iPodDisk treat your iPods as exactly what they are: portable storage devices that you own. Mount on Finder, drag/drop same-same any disk.
Plenty of other stuff, check the page. Remember, all this stuff is open-source, written for the Mac OS X platform.

Chrome Update: Been using it on my Windows laptop at home. It rocks. Internet Explorer is toast. It is still a Beta so there are a few issues but not many. Some pages will display weird but still work and there was a tiny bug that I saw. Plenty of cool new features though to make up for it. There is now NO reason to use IE other than your company mandates it. Would love to know what Mr. Gates is thinking these days.

I was totally wrong on the RH barfines. The A Team is 750B and the rest are 550B. That is a 50B increase to both categories.
Sorry for my confusion.
Are other bars raising their barfines that you know of?
Re Chrome: I think Google did a silent update on me. Things that used to display badly are fine now and I don’t see the Flash process chewing up the CPU as often. Or maybe web sites are quickly adapting to Chrome.
