   I am completely disgusted at the behaviour of this governor…..
   Doesn’t he know that quality ‘totty’ can be had for a fraction of the price in LOS?
   I’m only glad it isn’t my tax dollars he’s wasting

   The Duke has a somewhat disappointing line up of beers for a pub. It’s more akin to a bar beer.

   They should look to add more up-market brands on draft such as Kilkenny, Stella, Kroenburg etc.

   dr bond - I totally agree. the dude is toast now though.

   jb - hopefully he will now give back by focusing all his efforts in the homeless in NYC.

   MSB - The duke of Wellington management has thought long and hard about its draught beer selection (we have a wide selection of bottled beers).

   The selection consists at the moment of 5 draught beer the reason for this is that by sticking with certain suppliers we can supply the best prices for our customers.

   All of our beer (with the exception of John Smiths)
   goes through our imported glyco system consistently coming out at -2.5 degrees Celsius and we believe we offer the cheapest pub beer prices in central Bangkok. However the management must admit that they are currently in negotiations to put in Kronenborg rather than Stella Artois
   and we also have John Smiths rather then Kilkenny.

   Let us know what u think.

    Stella is indeed chav-fuel, and pretty much the opposite of “up-market”. They don’t call it wife-beater for nothing. Kronenbourg is little better - I had credited MSB with better taste!

    To be fair though, MSB is right in that you’d be hard pushed to find a pub of the Duke’s size in the UK without Stella or Kronenbourg on tap, but I actually find their absence refreshing. Reminds me I’m not in the UK

    Cactus John has a bunch of decent imported bottled Belgian beers at Cactus on Cowboy, and draught Hoegaarden (complete with those awesome oversized glasses) is starting to appear in a few pubs (eg Soi 8), which makes me very happy indeed.

    That said though, would enough of the Duke’s customers fancy paying the premium for these, when they can get a pint of Tiger for 80 baht at happy hour? Probably not.

    If Beerlao is available on draft (I’ve never seen it), then that’s something I’d definitely encourage. Other than that, carry on.

    You know. I was walking around Silom about a year ago and had the runs I always get my first couple of days in Thailand. Well There I am walking and it hits I know I only have a minute or two before its too late. I am looking for somewhere I know will have toilet paper. YES!! I see the Duke,I cross the street go in the doors, but As i hit the hallway thats leads to the bathroom I made a mess of myself.
    I cleaned up the best I could and got the taxi of shame back to my hotel.
    My one and only time in the duke.

    yesman - sorry the incident. THe duke bathrooms are public to the center we are in. We put paper in them at night but not during the day because it gets stolen by people of the street. So we put tissue in the back entrance to the bathrooms. Hope u make a trip back sometime.

    I think the Duke should have Miller High Life on Tap.. then all you Englishwoman would know what a real beer is like…

    No wait … let go with some colt 40’s or Mikey Big Mouths.. ummm quality..

    To enable a more efficient handling of donations - already flooding in - to the Save The Nana Escalator! fund, I shall be at the Duke for a schooner of sherry on the evening of the 18th. A committee of well-wishers may be formed, and a plan of action drawn up (like, replacing that gold pedalo on a plinth they have at the park at the moment with a bronze-cast Esky, and installing those inflatable chute things they use in airplane crashes at the NEP to speed up the process of getting your short-time shag back to your hotel. That kind of thing.)
