The fun and games of running businesses in Thailand continues. First the no-smoking mess and now the no-drinking mess. No matter - we still plan on bringing the Big Mango back to life. Why? Bkk needs The Big Mango and who am I to deny the fine bar goers of bkk an institution it so rightly deserves.
On the no-drinking. Word is there should be no drinking tonight and most of tomorrow. Do I think it will happen? Hell no. This is Thailand, it is the top of the month and the police need money. Rumor is that Soi 8 might be serving and possibly Cowboy after 12. If we hear anything or if you know anything - please put it here.
I thought I would mention this random issue I have recently heard about in Singapore. As u know Singapore is one of those weird places where they purport that prostitution is illegal and pretend it does not happen but we all know it is not true. Ever been to the four floors? I once went to Singapore with my Thai girlfriend and got such the riot act for bringing her because they assume every Thai girl going to Singapore is going there to hook. Given this, there is pent up anger by Singapore officials towards other Asian females that go to Singapore for purposes of working the scene.
A few months ago I heard about a ladyboy that was beat up by some of the Singaporean police but was never reported. Then I heard about a Thai girl who was picked up in the four floors and whose visa had expired. So she was in trouble for over-staying. However they did not deport her or do anything legal to her - they shaved her head and told her she was to go home. Just this last week I heard of a similar issue with another Thai girl but they cut her long hair off rather than shave it. I have always said Singapore is wound just a little too tight for my liking.
Anyone been to the new bar at Suk Soi 1? This is the old Suk Soi 1 bar plaza. The whole building is being remodeled but the top floor has opened up - name is Gazebo. I went once to check it. Won’t be back. It is an open air middle eastern bar with bad Thai food, expensive drinks and hookah pipes. So what are they attracting? Middle eastern guys sitting around smoking and leering at anyone who comes in that does not look like them. They have a live band, a disco and all in all a very well laid out place but I doubt most farang are going to be attracted to this place. It will be interesting to see how they fill out the rest of the building.
In case you have not heard, Thaksin is back. What a player this kid is. Kissing the ground, bringing the cute little soccer players with him - it is just all too much for me. I think they should let him be Prime Minister again or at least put in charge of the ministry that handles the triumphant returns of ex-prime ministers thought to be 2 bit criminals.
To the crux of this post. Life is a strange journey. There are times when I wonder what it is exactly I am shooting for. The blog of course forces me to define what it is I am doing because I write about myself along with all the other junk I refer to. Thailand is many things to many people. Some guys want a different girl every night. I don’t. Some want a gf. I don’t - I want 2. Maybe more. Some want to get married. Not me. Been there done that. I can’t really recommend it. Point is that Thailand can be what u want it to be. Or it can be what I want it to be. All in the same night.
I was an avid reader as a kid. I probably read things I should not have. Before I was 15 I had read Homer’s Odyssey. Amazing read but not sure I was ready for it. I was a huge science fiction fan and before I was 18 I had read probably every Robert Heinlein book in print. Another heavy author probably not normally read by teenagers. Heinlein was amazing. Technically very astute but at the same time extremely worldly and open minded. He was my hero. I just did not realize in which ways he would influence me until now.
Group relationships and group marriage, in which all consider themselves associated to one another, popularized to some extent by Robert A. Heinlein (in novels such as Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough For Love, Friday, and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress).
Group relationships. Heinlein would create characters that openly were involved with many partners but in such a way that it seemed okay. Almost better than the normal mode of relationships. 1 man. 1 woman. In his book Friday I was so amazed at the thought of a hot, female robot who liked sex. Could anything be better? 2 of them maybe is all I can think of.
So at times I have talked about on the blog that I want to be like Hugh Hefner.
After his separation from Conrad, Hefner began living with an ever-changing coterie of women, ranging in age from 18 to 28. He told Vanity Fair: “And here’s the surprise bit—it’s what they want!” Soon, Hefner assembled another coterie of girlfriends, notably Brande Roderick. In 2000 she left to take a role in popular series Baywatch. Later, Tina Marie Jordan became Hefner’s “primary” girlfriend, and he quickly selected more young blondes for a changing posse of usually seven, one of whom was Holly Madison who joined in 2001. Shortly after Playboy’s 50th anniversary, five of the girlfriends, including Izabella St. James, left, leaving Holly and Bridget Marquardt to tend to Hefner.
U gotta love it. I won’t get into the debate over this but this must cost Hugh some money. Who cares. Cheap Charlie talk cannot be mentioned in the same breath as a guy chasing multiple women. Just not possible but in Thailand I think one can get pretty damn close to the rock star or Hugh lifestyle with a lot less cash than it would take in the real world. In fact I reckon one can spend more on booze and eating out than it takes to manage a few girls.
This section from BBK’s last post hit home with me in a big way:
In The World, unless you are a rock star, billionaire, professional athlete, or underwear model regularly banging just one of these girls is a pipe dream but in Thailand with a little bit of knowledge, a little bit of gamble, a good sense of adventure, and a little help from a contributor to The Big Mango Blog, having a stable of these girls and living like a rock star is easy to achieve—if you are willing to accept the risks and the potential costs and benefits to your choice. In fact, in Thailand you can live better than a rock star—enjoying all the sexual benefits without the downside costs of being famous.
This is so true. I am surprised more people don’t realize this. 1 gf in Thailand? Why - when u can have 2. 3 somes? Sure. Not the y kind but the tri-kind - they are so much fun. As you get better at creating them you will find you won’t even need the assist from chemicals. You just need to find a girl who loves girls. Hell - had my first 4some the other night. I am still reeling from it. No - I am not making this up. If you go out with 2 girls who are having fun and like girls, it is not odd for them to want to bring another girl back with them. Girls who like girls are like big game hunters. They need a new face for the trophy case every once in a while. Who am I to deny them?
So where does one take this? I used to think of this as a harem but after consulting Wikipedia I realize I am wrong.
Is it Polygny? No - that is just too Mormon for me.
Maybe it is Polyamory?
Because of its fluid nature, polyamory is sometimes loosely defined. Nevertheless, people who identify as polyamorous typically reject the view that sexual and relational exclusivity are always necessary for long-term loving relationships. Those who are open to, or emotionally suited for a polyamorous lifestyle, may at times be single, or in monogamous relationships, but are more typically involved in multiple long term relationships.
Pretty heavy but seems to be closer to the mark.
Anyway. This is another part of my Thailand journey. The one I am making up as I go but there are girls in this town who love other girls and who seem to feel like they can openly share their desires. Sure - there have been some awkward moments but I am working through it. Like one night when both girls stayed over but one of them left for work early in the morning thus leaving the other one in my bed - alone. I was debating what the right protocol was so I called girl #1 who said that it is only right I shag girl #2. I gave the phone to girl #2 who was told by girl #1 to shag me before she left. Okay. Crisis averted. Oh yeah and when one is on the rag the other one feels obligated to do her part to make sure everyone is happy. Of course there are times they have no interest in me and tend to take care of each other first but I don’t mind. I can always watch.
Thailand is a strange place. So I must just be the Stranger in a Strange Land.

i knew i read this blog for a reason - the eventual usage of a Heinlein reference! as an aside - while in california i actually worked with a cousin of his.
intellectually, i feel that the group marriage concept is awesome - especially for the safety and providing for of children - but emotionally i’m just not there yet. *sigh*
of course, if i lived in BKK, with the vast majority of available women without snooty attitudes, i’d probably try the hefner thing as well.
have a good one…oh wait, you have two…

Smitty… I bow down as i read the living dream.
Some people that read the blog may think these things are fantasy and not reality but i know what you say is true.. and i hate it, while i sit in the states.
There are things i learn every time i go and i just keep learning more, everyone can create their own dream its all depends on how far your imagination takes you and how big you grow the balls to express what you want.
Live the Dream
