Nana Plaza Update: Erotica GoGo and Mercury “Beer Bar”

Major changes done by the owner recently to Erotica and Mercury in Nana Plaza. I’ve updated the guide pages linked previously if you’re interested. Mercury is now a beer bar basically with two Pool tables. Very lame. Erotica 3rd floor has gone Coyote. The girls wear short shorts and tops and are at best average looking. Also lame. Erotica 4th floor has been reopened and is kind of cool. Many of the spinners that previously worked downstairs are now upstairs. It’s not too bad. One other note, they have pretty nice short time rooms on the 5th floor. They’re 300 baht and are very clean, well as clean as a short time room can be, and also have showers.

Shame to see Mercury go, i had a softspot for that place (until i got banned) for no reason.
90baht a beer all night aswell if i remember right.
Never on a par with rainbow/baccara for quality, but used to have to odd stunner. Anyone her remember Fon with the huge knockers that used to work there?

yp: Don’t remember the knockers specifically but sure I’ve seen her there. I agree it’s a shame to see it go. Such a strange vibe the place had which made it cool. Some good memories for sure.

4th floor? 5th floor? Which Plaza are we talking about here?

jb - sorry to be confusing.

erotica is technically like the 2.5 floor and it was a 2 story bar and then the short time room is above it all.

if the 3rd floor of the plaza is the 3rd floor than erotica is 3, 4th and then 5th for the short time.

if u consider to be the 2nd floor - than it is 2,3 and 4th

erotica kind of sits in between the 2 and 3rd floor of the plaza cause it is like a separate building.

    okay?

Stopped into the Mercury (Erotica) beer bar Sat nite on floor 2. 2 poole tables, friendly staff, and a couple of fun ladies. Music not ear-splitting.

Maybe a little desperate for staff as a 45 lady with no bar experience who could not speak English, nor play pool, had just started working there. Bought her a couple of drinks as she was polite, and quite attractive for an older lady.

Staff told me 4th floor bar was now a disco. Wonder how that will work in NEP?

5th floor ST rooms (think there are 4 of them) are very small, with one mirror along side the bed, but certainly the least quality of the 3 NEP ST rooms (haven’t tried those above Mandarin). But the Erotica ST rooms make do when the other ST rooms are full.

Former Big Mango digs are still empty. Idiot tailors!

dj - I think the 4th floor is a coyote bar - not really a disco. Anyway - this is the ice man’s way of building bars in NEP. He was fed up with hi tenants so decided to take things into his own hands. HOw anyone thinks a disco/pool hall/coyote is a better business model in a place where one pays go-go like rents in beyond me. I predict more failure.

Yes - old mango digs are still dark. Thai capitalism at its finest.

    nice.

Yeah, 4th floor they now have coyote pods where the girls dance in skimpy bottoms and no tops (stars on the nips). Coyote/GoGo basically.

I am South-East Asian. In the past I was refused entry to quite a few bars in NEP. Will they let me go into Erotica 3rd and 4th floor?
What do you think, my western brothers?

Ato: I’ve heard in the past that they discriminated against Indian/Middle Eastern but not sure if they do or not. If you look clean you should be okay but let us know otherwise.

Sorry to hear that Ato. Being a ‘choc-olet-man’ - I feared similar treatment in Thailand but have always been welcomed with open arms at NEP, Cowboy, Walking St, Beach Rd, etc, and have been pleasntly surprised by the diversity of the client base. Its Thailand - smile a lot and look like you have money and generally you will be treated well by all but the most mean-spirited and suspicious of people.

Is it possible you were refused entry because they thought you were Thai? BBK might have some advice in this area.

There’s no doubt the girls are typically more drawn towards white guys and Japanese than anyone else - although tbf, I wasn’t lacking in attention, even from good girls at Emporium and on the Skytrain.

It is unfair that those of us with darker skin are judged by the worst element - the 419er in my case - while no-one assumes every white guy is a Mr Swirlyface or Robert Fritz. But hey, its a racist world, we all know that, and fuck it - you’re on holiday!

Maybe you might have more joy at the Thai, Susithan style joints? Or try visiting when economic times are hard, like now, or holiday times, like Songkran.

You shouldn’t have to ‘prove yourself’, but in this world you often do. And the more non-white guys who do ‘prove ourselves’ to the Thais, either as nice guys, a good source of income, or whatever, the easier it will get. Good luck dude :)

PMMP bro - sorry to say so but I look cleaner and I am cleaner than most of the bro’s coming from your part of the world. Besides this I am also much better dressed. Don’t take it personally but many western tourists dress like tramps.

Milo bro - I never knew that they also refuse entry to African bro’s. Last month a dude standing at the entrance of one of those shitty NEP-bars at the 2nd floor shouted “only members” and something in Thai as well. I showed him my passport and…he let me in! However I wasn’t interested anymore and walked on. Yet it made me wonder on what grounds they actually refuse entry.
Remember one thing: NEP and SC are places especially made for westerners.

Ato: I was just saying that it would probably help. I met an American-Italian who was clean cut and wore nice threads who looked somewhat middle-Eastern. He came by the old Mango one night infuriated at being denied access to Erotica, so wearing nice clothes is certainly not the ticket.

Seems pretty simple, let everyone in, if they cause a problem, then bust them. Not sure what the laws are here in Thailand but worth checking out if you’re discriminated against. Maybe there is some recourse there.

“Seems pretty simple, let everyone in”

    - Does this include French people and, dare I say it.. ‘gingers’?
