I love saying I am going to Pattaya for business. Just something sinister about it. I am mean sure - I will always fit in a little free time for exploring but since I write about it I tend to think of it as a business trip. Sucks to be me. Anyway - lots going on. Some serious rain today in lower Suk. Soi 4 all flooded. pmmp texted me to say that he had to go to the Big Mango and make sure we were not flooded. We laughed. Not our problem now but it is funny since the landlords in the old mango did nothing. Flooding - our problem. Power out - our problem. Leaky plumbing - our problem. I don’t mind taking some responsibility for our digs but the purpose of renting is that the maintenance of the building is the landlord’s problem. Just not the case in Nana. Anyway - if it is true that the hollywood dude is renting our old digs - I hope he checked the roof out since usually it floods like a beasty right into the landlord’s tailor shop. Hope u picked up your shirts yesterday.
I had plans of hooking up with a few people whilst in Pattaya. I never got in touch with some, was somewhat let down by others(may write about this later but u may notice an ad dropping from the blog), but I did connect with Ed and Nid. So all was not lost. Ed is of Pattayarag fame. I like Ed’s tone, enjoy his technical nuggets and was happy to hook up for a few beers. I hope Ed does not mind me saying before we get started but the plan is to work with Ed to bring some sort of weekly Pattaya update to the blog. Should have a trail run soon. I think it will go over great!
Nid - u all remember Nid don’t u? Nid is our ex-cashier and all around party-girl from the mango. Nid was in town with some friends and the plan was to hook up with her for a night. We toured some Pattaya bars I had never been to, took her friends out partying and generally just had a wild time. Thx Nid.
With all the mall building in Pattaya it just does not feel the same to me. I understand progress will happen but it takes some of the character of the place away. The problem I have with malls is that there is nothing in a mall I have not seen before. Starbucks, Au Bon Pain, Boots, and so on and so on. So freaking boring. It is weird to me how Pattaya is sprawling in some sense with bars and clubs but is losing some space to super malls. My guess is the trend will only continue.
As I have mentioned many times on this blog. Pattaya for a few days is the bomb. I love it. That is where it ends though. After 48 hours I just cannot take anymore fat guys without shirts, skinny guys in speedos trying to cross beach road, eastern euro trash giving everyone the evil eye and the balloon chasers. 2 days. That’s my limit.
Okay. Time for a bar rundown. I did some of the usual haunts and thanks to Ed and Nid went to a few places that are new to me.
- Beach Club: Sometimes I like the vibe in here and the table top dancing with the mirrored tables but I did not see one hottie in the place and looking at not so hot girls without underwear was only appealing for one drink. It is what it is.
- What’s Up - Play Girls: I popped in here and the last trip and was unimpressed but this time was different. Lots of cuties, some girls playing in the tub, a few mattresses with totally nude girls and a decent vibe. I love when a girl gets on the stage clothed and undresses to get nude. Simple pleasures. I just don’t understand why owners and girls don’t get into some sort of striptease show. It is sexy and even the not so hot girls could turn people on with a sexy striptease. Anyway. What’s up gets an honorable mention.
- Caurosel: Decent shows and some nudity but the ratio of hotties seems real low right now.
- Happy: Despite some of my issues with barfining here one cannot dispute how good of a go-go this is. Sexy girls dancing on podiums without undies, a great go-go lineup, some seriously nude shows with high energy dancing and a fun vibe. I like getting in there early and hanging.
- Peppermint: Busy as usual. Another great spot. I love the back wall cage with the all nude girls. I can sit there for quite a while checking it out.
- Living Dolls Showcase: Nothing special really. To me this used to be a much better club but the quality of girls is down right now.
- Catz: Some cuties but nothing amazing and the layout of the club makes for kind of a boring time unless u connect with someone special.
- Club Boesche: Okay but not as rocking as usual and the girls in the tub were pretty boring. There are some hotties in the place and a drink or 2 is nice but when it is really hopping with hotties one can spend more time there.
- Sizterz: What can I say other than horrible? Maybe I went to early but there was not one cutie in sight. Yes the happy hour drinks are super cheap but cheap or not I don’t like ugly girls.
- Windmill Club: Same format as before with the podium dancers almost naked and a play area but there was no one really cute and the girls were all half asleep. The 2 girls playing in the play area were naked and playful but not super hot and did not look like they wanted to be there. One and out. Cheap happy hour as well though.
- Coyote: Probably my pick of the night. Great vibe. Semi naked girls, totally naked girls and some shows. The format makes for good viewing and all the girls we chatted with were very friendly. I could have easily spent some time in there but I wanted to hit some new spots. Check coyote out for sure.
- Honeypot: Not sure how new this is but it is new to me. It is on Soi 3 between beach and 2nd road. A coyote bar with live music and hostesses. There were a few real hot coyote girls, a nice vibe and everyone was very friendly. I suggest getting there early if u want your pick of the girls.
- Alantic Bar: This is a beer bar on 2nd road near soi 2 and 3. I usually don’t do beer bars but Nid had a friend there and she wanted me to see the place. Open air, pool tables, good music and friendly girls. Some barefinable and some not. Really enjoyed the place and there are girls there I would return for.
- U too bar: In the same area. A bigger beer bar, pool tables, coyote dancers and fun music. Hard to really explain why this is better than say any other beer bar but mostly it is the vibe. Friendly girls and staff make the reason. Both Atlantic and U too were quite busy so whatever they are doing it must be working. With u too bar one can see how using the net, ala big mango, can build a loyal customer base.
Bar crawl over.
For lunch I stopped into Bob’s Bbq based on this post. I took notes since the burgers were awesome. Not a lot of ambiance to the place but the food was great. Had a burger and a margarita. Tasty. The homemade buns are a nice touch. Great portions and u walk away stuffed, feeling like u got your money’ worth. I am sure they will do well in their new location.
3somes. Such a delicate thing. I won’t get into too much detail but they are so much harder to pull off then people think. Sure, one can always barfine 2girls and take turns but that is not what I am talking about. For this trip my 3some karma was non-existent. Better luck next time.

balloon chaser: polite way of calling someone a cheap charlie but to elaborate it is the clan of folks who troll pattaya looking for the cheapest drink, cheapest barfine, bars with free food, crazy happy hours and bars having a party since they will most likely offer something for free. Hence the balloons.

That’s my limit.” Succinctly describes my take on Pattaya. For me, it’s the best mongering locale in Thailand, and I always look forward to visiting. However, the last several trips I have cut my planned stays short (nor more than 3 nights each trip) for the above reasons.

I heard that happy and peppermint, were the ‘rainbow and baccara’ of patts. I heard one of the best places to find a mid-day FL in patts is Carrefour and Tony/Mike/Trevor (forget his generic english name) mall on beach road

It has always been the same with patts, i cant stand some of the trash that hangs there, I could only do 48-72 hours there.
The best thing about patts is the finding that diamond in the ruff, its the total payoff.
My last time there i spent with a buddy (ooh yea two bastards never showed up
) and we checked out all these no name bars it was fun, there was this one bar on the side of Living dolls that a girl did some amazing tricks with her whoo whoo (pussy), she shot darts out poping balloons, turned off fire, took baht coins and paid out change, and other crazy stuff…
Pattaya is good in moderation.

I’ve heard that the happy/peppermint owners are prone to stunts like this from “the birds’ mouth” but i’ve never seen it done.
Coyotees seems to be hit or miss these days, I guess you just have to get there at the right time, although the 50baht a drink late night happy hour always smooths over any potential lack of spinners.

Without writing a full-on trip report, do want to say that I just came back from a weird week in Pattaya. I say “weird” because I was surprised at some of the prices and attitudes of the girls. Lots of chicks in GoGos (Pepperment, the Soi Diamond GoGos, etc.) were asking 2500 for long time. Got some real ‘tude from a couple girls in the Simon Beer bar complex (tho a couple were not bad). Real lack of decent looking girls everywhere. Also, beware, there seem to be more than a few underage girls around. One girl at Simon was having her birthday: her 17th!
BTW, there’s one adorable cage (nude) dancer at Peppermint who looks 14 when in her streetwear. Gets you some rude looks on the trip back to the hotel. Speaks little English but she’s a sweetie and good fun!

I was just in Bangkok and Pattaya and some girls asked for 2000LT. When I was there 5 months ago I only ever gave 1000LT and not one girl ever said anything. I was under the impression it was the going rate. What the hell happened. Maybe I got fat or something.

methinks you can take the option of not bringing it up beforehand and then if the girl doesn’t either, just giving her whatever at the end. i’ve tried that a couple of times before and it’s worked out. however, for whatever reasons (i don’t want any problems, and i try to be a “nice” guy and not have anyone disappointed?) i almost always discuss it first. i think it also helps you to get a gauge on the chick’s attitude. if she’s asking too much at the get-go, you may not be in for a good time…in my experience

Peppermint is a place i just can’t seem to get away with, it could certainly have potential but by the time I get the correct drinks organised the mood has always evaporated. I’m a vodka drinker and they never put any in the coke on first serve, after sending them back once it still won’t have any in, second time it comes back with nangsom (sp?). The problem I have getting drinks in there is constant, I know lots of places do it regularly but in peppermint it seems to be with every single drink.

Should I be paying lady drink prices if I have bar fined a girl for say a week and we stop by her bar for a drink when we are out? I have been . Is this a rip off or is it normal?

It’s pretty normal. It costs you a bit more but she will get her slice of it, about 40 baht on average. For example, if you buy her a Heineken as a non-LD it will cost you let’s say 100 baht. The bar gets 100 baht, the girl gets nothing. If you buy it as an LD it will cost you 120 baht. The bar gets 80 baht and the girl gets 40 baht.
It might also helps her meet her monthly quota if the bar has an LD monthly quota.
You are basically helping her out buying her an LD and it keeps her in good standing with the bar. Some girls though will not take the LD to save you some money.

yesman: just to let you know that this site TheFARANGSpeaks2Much is operated by two guys who are Bangkok bar owners. Their original BKK bar (the Big Mango) was in Nana Plaza, but that location closed in Oct 07. Many people are waiting impatiently for its resurrection in a new location yet to be announced by smitty & pmmp.
In the meantime, they continue to operate one of the best businessman’s English pubs in the City in Silom area (The Duke of Wellington). They rarely mention that business in the blog, but it’s large and successful with a nice decor.
Their position as experts on the nightlife scene is based in part on the fact that they are bar owners, but primarily on the fact that they are total party animals.

yesman: Drink Quota doesn’t go down. Mostly because the bar is not getting drinks from the girl, her’s or the customers. Sure, she paid the bar but that just excuses her from work…and she does gets paid Salary for that day. She will also get a piece of the barfine in some bars. In the Big Mango Bar we always encouraged the girls to bring/keep their customers that paid barfine in the bar so both the girl and the bar benefit from the extra drinks being bought. This is pretty normal amongst bars which is why some places that have Pool and Food do okay business. Drinks make the bar money. Everything else is the supporting cast.

Yesman: Re: LD prices. If you have barfined a girl for a week, the LD quota is not a priority for her as the fee she will receive from you for that week should significantly exceed her LD commission.
I have sometimes taken girls back to the bars where they work, as it gives them some ‘face’ with their coworkers, and opportunities to chat with their friends. Sometimes I have been charged LD prices for their drinks; sometimes regular customer prices.
What us customers have to be cautious about is our ‘dates’ wanting to buy LDs for several of their friends in their bar. I understand the pressure they have to do this, but I take control of that process so it doesn’t turn into a feeding frenzy .
