Happy after Christmas-pre-New Year

No big resolutions or revolutions yet. Christmas was a success down at the Duke. Thanks to all who came out. Much appreciated. Had a nice turkey sandwich today. Yummy. I am in a weird funk. I don’t really feel like hardcore partying for some reason. Maybe it is a phase. It could have come with the onset of the process I am currently going through to reach dreadlock nirvana. Dreading ain’t easy but for some reason I am enjoying the transition but I am glad I tried it since I met the Thai Jack Sparrow down in Khao San. Yes - I can wash my hair and believe me the ladies are not running away. I have decided, not promising, that I won’t drink from now until New Year’s Eve. A slight detox. Does the body good. This could be part of another evolution I am experiencing. Just maybe.

Maybe I am bored with some of the venues. I am not sure really. I feel like doing some more member club mining just for a change of pace. Increase my odds. In working on the guide I also realized how many massage joints are out there that I need to review. I need to find out what is behind some of those gaudy doors, and silly names. The more I explore the more I see how many massage joints there really are. Just a stunning amount. Sure in general I know it is all the same drill but somehow making it my mission to go into all of them and partake sounds kind of fun. There must be some hotties, some interesting situations, and some decent value plays. Will keep me off the booze, get me laid and give me plenty of food for fodder. Of course I will be letting Orion down in a big way. :)

Who knows. Maybe it is all a funk.

Funny things afoot in lower suk. First you have soi towel head which in my opinion has some amazing food. Now it seems a separate area known as soi Africa is getting some unwanted attention. Some serious drug bust action going on. Did you see this in the Bangkok Post?

One suspect, identified only as Mr Jachike, was arrested at the New Rose Inn. After the police knocked on the door of his top floor room, he attempted to escape through the roof by punching a hole in the bathroom ceiling and climbing through. But the wooden ceiling collapsed under his weight and he fell back into the room, slightly injuring himself.

Mr. Jackike needs to lay of the kebabs it seems. I am sure the Thai cops just love this stuff.

I don’t know what it is but people love to use Thailand and underage sex together in a sentence. I must say that this is the oddest example of it I have ever seen:

With the Harry Potter hoopla dying down in the wake of the final book, J.K. Rowling agrees to keep interest up for the last two movies by releasing more tidbits along the lines of “Dumbledore is gay,” only more scandalous. However, for some reason, all of her revelations have to do with the Sorting Hat, who we learn is a bigamist with a tragic Scotchgard addiction and a fetish for leather hatbands who once visited Thailand to procure the services of an underage sunbonnet.

Anyway. Back to some serious pondering. Just not sure about what.

One Farang resident of BKK once told me, that the drug traffic is mainly in the hands of the police. So if u get caught as a foreigner at the airport or wherever with serious amounts of drugs for smuggling or selling it means you interfere with their business, leading to the often heard about long prison sentences. But for “usual” consumption (can someone explain what that is?), meaning you are a user, I was told it is always possible to bribe yourself out of a drug bust.

From that point of view the drug bust on Soi 3 makes sense. Police dealers busting their competitors. 1 Point for the cops, 0 points for the Africans. Next round please.

Thinking about it again, the drug trade market is probably not so much directly done by the cops but the market is under their supervision. Meaning that the business can go on as long as the dealers pay their share to the police, play by the rules of the police and don’t piss anybody off.
The police get their extra income by bribes and shares of the deals (or by busting stupid Farangs who really do drugs in Thailand to get some extra income through bribary) and it can all go on like this forever. Would be interesting to know if other readers can verify/falsify this theory.

Phoenix - drug offenses are very serious in Thailand and while some corrupt police involvement is highly probable I doubt that they make arrests for business competition reasons. Rank is worth more than money and making a big bust is good for a cop’s career.

Whether the perpetrator can buy his way out and how much he will pay depends mostly on how far up the food chain officers know about the bust and how serious they feel the offense is.

Talking of massage joints, I’ve always enjoyed “correct” Thai massage (in addition to “incorrect”), mostly at the Asia Herb Association, around the corner from Emporium. This is a super-proper establishment for those who like an expert non-sexual massage, and it’s all very civilised with lots of hi-so ladies sipping tea. Imagine my surprise recently when my masseuse (10/10 technique, 1/10 looks) started to excite my manhood (almost against my will) and gave me a very happy finish indeed. So there you go - there really is only one sort of Thai massage.

I like to distinguish between massage joints and girls whose primary interest is cultivating and pleasing their Japanese customers over their ferang customers. Its easy to weed them out.
I address the whole squad (in Thai) and ask if anyone speaks Japanese.

I choose my athlete from among those who can’t.
