Prohibition update and random rodent violence…

Yo folks. Quick rundown with events as we see them so far. Today is still a no drinking day and for the most part during the day - this all seems to be getting enforced. The police have reminded us and the other pubs a few times but once the sun sets seems things start to change. Last night I did not see any of the major pubs or bars serving. I am not sure if any of the clubs were open but I know the member clubs were open but not serving. Nana was open and not serving. Same with Cowboy. Patpong was serving in the smaller places almost all evening but in cups. You had to pay as you go but then after 10, almost all the places started serving. About the only bar in Patpong who did not serve all night was Safari. Weird. Spicy was open, serving and rammed but I am not sure what other after-hours places were open. My guess is tonight will be about the same across town but the question is will the bars and pubs be able to serve for the big football games tomorrow?

Once again though the whole process is just plain silly. Farangs can’t vote and have no influence or say in politics whatsoever but yet it is really only the Farang oriented places that get strictly enforced. However this year, other than Patpong, it seems that things have been pretty locked down. I don’t know why the pubs could not be open and only serve Farang. Seems to be a viable solution and good for business and tourism. Imagine all the Christmas tourists arriving only to be told they can’t drink this weekend and possibly not next weekend and maybe even on Christmas. This will surely have some effect on the tourism market for Thailand.

Checked out a few places I have not been to yet. First stop was Club 66 - the upstairs bar on the right-hand side as u head down Patpong 1 from Silom. I think it was first opened as a club and potentially as an after-hours joint but I think somehow the King’s group had something to say about that. It looks like they are refocusing as a club like place with Coyote dancers. They had a fair amount of dancers, good music and some friendly staff. A little more expensive than the go-gos but I think they will find a niche by the looks of things. I bagged a number and moved on.

At this point I hit the King’s Lounge - the after-hours place run by the King’s Group. The place was pretty packed last night with a very mixed crowd. Some Thais, Farang, ladyboys, go-go girls, tourists and so on. Weird mix but the music is great at this place and given all the no drinking around town it made for a busy joint. I am not sure if this is normal or if this was do to Patpong being one of the few places to party last night. Funky Dojo was also open and serving. Seems Patpong was getting all the love last night.

Prior to the prohibition we had hit Spicy on Thursday for a small blowout. We were hanging at a table watching the scene when a massive rat b lined across the dance floor to hide out behind one of the couches. I told one of the service guys they may want to get it out before it freaks out some people. They chased it out from behind the couch and it ran across the club and into the men’s bathroom. We were drunk and the whole thing was so comical that we ran into the bathroom to see what would happen. One of the bathroom dudes was trying to kill it with his foot and then another guy grabbed it by the tail and beat it against the wall. The violence was swift and brutal. We returned to our table to pour some doubles in hopes of getting over it all.

If you have not checked out the guide folks - cruise on over and pop in some reviews. We are frantically working on the Internet Exploder bugs and will keep adding venues. Hopefully it will all blossom into something very useful.

@ smitty and pmmp: I never received my email to register for the guide and I noticed you have Baroque listed as a hostess bar which it most certainly is not. It’s just another RCA type bar.

jd - I didn’t get the number of the rodent. he was running to fast and when I went to meet up with it in the bathroom they had already killed it. My bad - I did not move fast enough.

bkk22 - given u are a yahoo user my guess is the registration email is in your spam folder. yahoo loves to do this with registration emails. will look into baroque. thanks!

The true losers will be the Democrats. Who votes for a party that implicitly collaborates with the hypocrites who ban the booze?
