First breakfast and now free Wi-Fi

I am starting to dig McDonald’s Thailand as of late. First the rollout of the limited, but tasty breakfast menu. FYI, the McDonald’s in the Robinson on Suk 19 now has breakfast. Now it seems at the newly remodeled venues that have the Cafe motif - there is free Wi-Fi. No password, no coupon - wide open. I used it yesterday at the McDonald’s Esplanade and I saw signs for it in Silom as well. Awesome trend. Quite a difference from Starbucks Thailand with their near equal pricing to the US for those highly profitable blended drinks and the most expensive Wi-Fi in town. The coffee at McDonald’s is not bad and given the free Wi-Fi, my guess is they will stake some froth from Starbuck’s.

Most if not all Coffee World locations have free Wi-Fi and their coffee is cheaper than Starbucks. Their access point at Esplanade is often offline. I’ve shown the friendly staff how to reset it (pull out the power cord and replace it 10 seconds later).

One drawback with McDonalds Esplanade is that I cannot find a power point to recharge my laptop whereas at Coffee World they have four by the windows which is also a great vantage point for people watching.

The Nokia N-Series access point at Esplanade is also wide open. I thought it would be somehow restricted to N Series clients but evidently not. It’s faster than Coffee World’s connection - in fact it is True WiFi, the same as Starbucks next door but free. I don’t see how Starbucks can keep charging in this competitive atmosphere.

With all the free WiFi around I have avoided buying an Internet connecvtion in my apartment for over a year now. If I had one I figure I’d spend way too much time at home online. I have to go out which is far more fun. The range of beautiful women passing through Esplanade is amazing. The only problem is that I am eating more donuts than a New York Cop because the girl who serves at Donut Baker adjacent to Coffee World is cute.

a - yeah. I have been doing the free wi-fi shuffle for a while now. Same reason. Keeps me out of the pad and hopefully in a better place to at the very least people watch while I am working. The problem is always power and Mc d’s is short on it so far.

It does blow me away that people put up with Starbuck’s sometimes. I used to use it when I was a road warrior and managed to turn in every receipt for work but those days are over.
