A rockstar lifestyle is possible…

I happened to get out of dodge this past Sunday. I will write all about that on a separate post. I took the bus to Sri Racha, a boat to Koh Si Chang and then ended the night in Pattaya. Was cheap getting there and back since I did it all via buses. Had a blast and was back in the groove by Monday in Bangkok. Lately I have been picking up the weekend edition of the Financial Times for my light reading needs. I like the mix of business, travel and updates on the literary world. I think during the week the paper is too light on content and too expensive in Bangkok. For my 50 baht I stick with the Asian Wall Street Journal. Anyway there was a funny column in the weekend FT that I have been following - The Secret Agent.

It is a anonymous column about a real estate agent for the uber rich in Europe. Funny stuff. The uber rich fascinate me since my personal feeling is they spend their money on useless items. Sure I would love a huge pad but I would stuff it full of girls. I don’t really need a car but I wouldn’t mind having a driver at my beck and call. Anyway. Tons of money would be good but the more I live in Bangkok and the more I have simplified my lifestyle the less I value the things I did before and the more I value my time spent working on interesting projects, growing my own businesses, reading, writing, learning a new language and well - partying. Here is an international example of what some people do when they have tons of cash:

They called me separately, on the same day. First was monsieur, who explained that he had a delicate situation to be handled with the utmost discretion. “Bien sur,” I replied, flexing my limited French. He explained that he was hoping to secure a London pied-à-terre for his Paris-based girlfriend (mistress seems such an antiquated word), whom he was keen to see more often, and gave me a fair but not overly lavish budget. I had just started my search in Pimlico (the poor relation to neighbouring Belgravia) when madame rang. I assumed I would be reprimanded for assisting in her husband’s affair but no. Her request was that I find a flat near her house for her personal trainer so he could be on call 24/7. Again, I suggested Pimlico as an appropriate area though her budget was a little more generous.

I have met many people in Thailand who have wives or girlfriends back home but also have a girl in Thailand. Many people immediately jump to some conclusion that this is a Thailand thing and point to how bad these people are and the girls for partaking in such things. Some of us actually appreciate that some Thai girls are taken care of by sponsors overseas - we have even created a new word for this - freebird. I reckon though that a large portion of men and potentially women would enjoy having multiple partners but simple economics generally precludes this behavior. That is the beauty of someone living or visiting Thailand often. The simple fact is that it is quite affordable for some people to maintain having multiple partners in Thailand. Some of it done on the sly and some people quite open about it but for most people it is a money factor - not a possibility factor.

I reckon that one can live quite good in Thailand for the long haul providing one has a nest egg, a good gig or both. I think about how little it costs me for a decent pad, housecleaner (does my laundry too), access to affordable food, access to affordable medical care and things such as movies/entertainment options. The amazing stuff though is the level of partying one can have and off course the women. Not just P4P either. I like to watch the TV show, Entourage - I think it is a great show. Sure - I don’t have the mansions, the cars and the fame - but when it comes to the clubbing, the friends, the women and the scene in general - I pretty much feel like I have the same options available to me here in Bangkok for a fraction of the cost. Many people may say they don’t or won’t directly pay for the girls but if you spend your money on flashy clothes, cars and pads then in some sense you are paying but just taking a different approach to the same outcome. Sometimes short circuiting the normal path and going to the source just makes more sense.

One of my last trips to the Tunnel I sat by the bar for a bit and just concentrated on consuming the scene. Watching the old dudes troll the floor but knowing they hated the club and the music but loved the girls. Watching some of the young dudes all dressed up and peacocking - hoping to score the non-working set. What is funny is watching some dudes work hard to pull non-working girls that are just not as hot as the working set but feeling better about themselves for not paying. I was sitting close to 2 girls who looked of the freelance type but a little too dressy for me to say for sure. They were obviously flirting with me and even gave off 3some overtures. They were not hot though and I am picky these days. For one I just don’t see the reason to work it if they are not hot. I also am fairly well spoiled in the 3some department. I hang with a girl who truly likes girls and we had just had quite a time in Pattaya so the idea of taking home 2 girls who really are not into it pales in comparison to the mental visual I have of 2 girls in a 69 while I watch their toes curling up for obvious reasons.

Anyway. Get it while you can I say. Thailand can be an amazing place for guys with some money, but not tons, some game and the ability to make the girls smile. Hone these traits and I think you can have quite a lifestyle here that compares to what a rock star gets back home. Maybe not quite, but not bad for a mere mortal.

This news tidbit made me smile. Beyonce, she is so hot, has declined to perform in Malaysia versus bending to their lame ass Muslim rules. What I think is funny is that Indonesia, far more Muslim and with many more people, will still get the Beyonce concert. Go Beyonce. Glad to see she chose her own personal artistic freedom over Malaysia’s dumb ass rules.

I turned my back on ‘flash cars’ and ‘fancy pads’ back in the UK in favour of a ‘normal’ existance in BKK.. The ‘material’ things just don’t seem important anymore.

In the UK, all that crap makes you happy I guess. Where as, in BKK.. totty everywhere makes one equally as happy, if not more?!

Not down with the Flash cars but I like a Flash pad in BKK. I have always told my friends back home that it’s like being famous or winning the lottery. You feel special, well I do. I think the life style is better than a rockstar. For starters you can have more and hotter women.

For me not a Rock star, but certainly a King! I have had three fantastic vacations in Thailand, golf, girls, and grog I call it.
While I don’t live there, the vacations certainly let me get a glimpse of the lifestyle that can be had quite easily.
It didn’t really hit home until I was back in the states and at a family gathering one of my teenage nieces asked me why I keep going to Thailand for vacation.
Realizing that she had probably been somewhat brainwashed by the US Media about human trafficking and the sex industry. I had to quickly come up with an answer that would be the truth, without going into more detail than is appropriate for a teenager.
And it hit me! For the three weeks that I am in Thailand I am treated like a KING! When I go golfing I have a cute caddy carry my clubs, explain the course, keep my balls clean (No pun intended), carrying an umbrella and fanning me to keep me cool, hell they even keep score better than I can.
Out in the shops and malls, very cute salesgirls rush to find me exactly what I need as if I am the only customer in the place.
I can go down almost any street in BKK and find a place to get any type of massage I want, foot massage, Thai massage, Oil massage, etc. All very inexpensive comparatively.
And of course like a King I have a Harem. All I have to do is stroll through Nana or Soi Cowboy to pick which of MY girls I am going to spend the night with!

It’s good to be the King! On a side note, my birthday happens to be the same as the King of Thailand, just the day, not the year! When I show this to the bar girls it seems to make things easier. I don’t know if that is because my birthday is the same, or the fact that I actually know when the Kings birthday is.

I enjoy the Mango blogs hugely. It takes me back to the late 1980’s when I lived in BKK for 2 years. I had a penthouse apartment on Sukhumvit soi 1, a pool on the roof, partied my ass off every night, and still had cash to spare.

I have particularly fond memories of the pool. On one occasion I rather casually invited the party back to mine and we all ended up wet (me x 2 mongers + 6-8 girls). The apartment manager came up, went postal for 5 mins, then accepted some refreshments and joined in. Happy days.

Fast forward 20 years, living in the UK, earning 20 times what I was then,..and guess what I aint living like the rockstar I was lol. Ahh, memories memories. I’m hoping to visit Nov/Dec. Anyone recall yankee “Mr Joe” from the Kings Group-is he still in country, same for American “Mike” the gem dealer with the black jeep? I’d love to know.
