Well folks. Did a quick run around the plaza last night and it was quite busy but the most noticeable thing was the upstairs action at Mandarin. For a few months now Mandarin has been the best go-go in Nana. Good music, great girls, and now the upstairs is starting to resemble Baccara. Black dresses, white button-up tops and yes - no underwear. From time to time they even take of their tops and they are not wearing the obligatory stars. Couple this with the opening of a new after-hours place in Patpong and it is starting to feel like the nightlife is crawling its way back. Could it be?
Rb 3 and Rb4 were pretty jamming. I still say that although Rb4 is rammed with girls, the cuter girls are in 1 and 3. I am avoiding 2 like the plague. Too many ugly girls and the music is horrible.
Spice club on Soi 11 was rammed and the new after hours on Petch was jamming. They had girls dancing coyote from Sheba’s and the music was pretty good last night. A good option if you want to stay in the Suk area and want something different. Rumor is the new Boss is also starting to pick up but I have not checked it out.
Carry on…
To be honest, I avoid the Plaza.
The place scares me. Needs better security.
Is there a better terrorist target in Thailand?
A Bali style attack is very likely in my opinion.

@Jimmy.. Getting on a subway/train/bus is equally a terrorist risk.
We can’t let these fookers dissrupt our fun or dare I say it… everyday life.
These are shit times we live in. But make the most of it.

As WW says.. we could die in a go-go with parts already stiff… or lock ourselves in our apartments…?
Hmm…..

With the Thai Tourism industry on the line, a few barriors at the entrance to the juciest target in Thailand should be the minimum.

‘SMOKING KILLS’ warnings on cigarette packets don’t stop people smoking.
Do you think a ‘barrier’ would stop a determined terrorist?

What’s the deal with the ‘escalators’ under the Big Mango?
Sometime working, sometime not? Do we need to have whip-round to pay the electricity bill?
Some of us only have little legs and struggle to walk up them.

dw - u have pointed out one of our biggest pet peeves. Nana plaza management - if u can call it that. Usually what happens is the thing breaks. Don’t ask me why it can’t be fixed given there must be a million escalators in Bangkok that seem to keep running but not the one in Nana. I am sure they get their spare parts from Burma.

1) Could you remind the readers again of the location/directions to ‘the new Boss’ or even the link to the page where it was discussed in this site?
2) Apart from pretty lady and Mandarin in which other Nana Plaza bars are you guaranteed to see naked beaver (at the current time)?
3) The comment on Nana Plaza led to a rash of off topic comments however now the subject of safety has been raised I would like to make a comment:
It immediately struck me when I went to NP about how unsafe the place looked. My main concern was the fire risk. There are numerous areas of concern.
•Only one point which serves as both the entry and exit point even though are dozens of bars which could each hold dozens of girls and customers. There is often a crush at this point at closing time.
•Most of the walkways and balconies are made of wood and don’t look very safe from a fire safety point of view or even a structural point of view. Wood could easily catch fire and the fire would spread very easily. The wooden structure could easily collapse as a result of a fire or bomb.
•The escalators are not always working and there are rickety wooden steps which can be difficult to negotiate. There have been fires caused by friction from the moving parts of escalators e.g. the London Kings Cross subway fire in the 80’s where over 50 people lost their lives
•The high amount of litter, dirt and discarded furniture and equipment which are strewn across the balconies and obstruct some parts of the passages and even the staircases. The litter could help to turn any fire into a conflagration and the many obstacles could impede any evacuation
•The confusing layout of the complex made worse by the fact that the exit points on the balconies are not signposted.
•There are three tiers to the complex and it takes time to get down from the top tiers.
•The large numbers of go go bars which have masses of electronic equipment in them. Fires could start from faulty wiring, sparks, etc.
•There probably not being any procedures in place at the complexx or rehearsals in the eventuality of a fire so the people who work in the bars would not know what to do. Also you have many young girls there who most likely would panic rather than remain calm.
The lack of nudity and the absence of any ’specialist’ bars in NP has given me the excuse to spend very little time there.
If there was a fire or a bombing incident this would certainly be the worst P4P place for it to happen. However, Nana Plaza has been there for years and nothing has ever happened…so far.

1. I forget where the new boss is but maybe pmmp knows?
2. none really but the feeling is that maybe bars are starting to push it a bit more as of late.
3. I hear you overall on your safety comment. We just did not want a terrorist rant to get started since a a mall, soi cowboy or any other large bar would be the same as doing something in Nana. I don’t see Nana as a target - nor do most any of the embassy people I know. By the way soi 4 has the most security cameras going now. There are none on cowboy from what I know. There is also no form of organized security around cowboy. There is at nana.
I am not sure where all these wooden structures are. Nana is pretty much all cement including most balconies and a lot of the railings. Very little wood that I know of.
On the exit issue I think u make some good points and they tend to leave stuff around when they work around the plaza. We complain about that all the time. Believe me.
I get your points but I don’t see anything happening there and I really would hate to start a bash Nana thread over perceived safety possibilities.
Imagine MBK with a fire? You think it would be orderly? You think they practice these things? I bet they don’t anywhere around Thailand. So I don’t see Nana as being much different than the rest of the places around Thailand.

mp: I posted an update with directions on Boss2 with the following post: http://www.tfs2m.com/main/2007/09/05/2nd-year-anniversary-pics-now-available/
Most every taxi guy will know and will take you there sometimes when you don’t even ask
FYI, in the future you can put “Boss” or anything you like in the Search box to search the site.
I will also add that nudity in NEP can also be seen at Mercury in the shows and the girls flash everything. Also, Carousel shows sometimes bare and in general you get flashes of nudity from many other bars like Pretty Lady and Playskool. The Ladyboy gogo’s will also flash upon request

(I’m sure smitty can change that to the link)
There is some info on the New BOSS club. I am in agreement with pmmp. Mainly because I was with him and also found ’shit’ in my drink.
Too many male farang.

I guess if I only wanted to frequent establishments with recently stamped public safety certificates posted in a prominent position on the wall then I should stick to England and save on the air fare. But I wouldn’t want to do that now would I?

Dear Mike Phillips more to report to the Health and Safety executive.
1. You forgot the danger from small bits of half chewed burger and onion falling on peoples heads from customers in Big Mango saying: “Shit they’re right this is the best (spit, spit) burger (munch, munch) in Bangkok”.
2. The danger from collisions with farangs stumbling down on the stairwell with new customers having tried the Bangkok Virgin drink in the Big Mango.
3. Being accidentally stabbed in the eye by waving of loose mascara sticks, eye liners and nail files outside Casanova and the other renowned “specialist bars” on the 2nd floor.
4. Neck brace injuries from the bull in Carousel.
5. Eardrum damage at the hands of the Fudamentalist Missionaries roaring their warnings at the entrance to Nana.
All of these and more make Nana one dangerous place, I’d avoid it.
P.S. what faulty dangerous electrical wiring everywhere, never spotted it myself.

You may have spotted the article in the Bangkok Post over the weekend where the Prime Minister, during his visit to the United Nations, announced the new anti-terrorism campaign. The army will be posting “No Terrorists Allowed” at all airports, bus stations, border crossings and other major points of entry in an effort to make all public spaces in Thailand safer.

Dangerous wiring plagues the whole ciy. I believe they could half the power comsumption of BKK, hence saving lots of money and oil if they did it properly but hey….T.I.T

I went into Mandarin about 1 am last night (Sunday) and took a seat upstairs. There were two girls dancing topless on the glass dancefloor who were having a great time wrestling, frolicking, fondling and kissing each other. They were both attractive; slender, nice racks, pierced toungues, great smiles, fantastic attitudes, just laughing and having a good time.
I bought drinks for both of them, and moments later I had one on each side, and the one on the right was french kissing me and generally treating me like I was King of the World. In the meantime, two more tiny cuties had lost their shirts and were dancing on stage.
To find beautiful girls dancing anywhere at 1 a.m. is a treat, since the beauties tend to be barfined early. To find four of them topless is a great treat. To see two of them frolicking like teenagers at a slumber party was fantastic. To have them bring that attitude to the table for the price of a drink is why Mandarin Club has emerged as a contender for “Best Go Go in Bangkok”.
This wasn’t just a lucky night. The last 3 or 4 trips into Mandarin club have been like this, but it just seems to keep getting better. The energy in the place is high, the attitudes of the girls is great. I’ll probably go back tonight… Monday night in October — I may have them all to myself!

Hi guys
This is my first post here, love the site.
I’m not sure if there is a more appropriate thread to be asking this (if there is I apologise) but I could use some help/advice.
Does anyone have recommendations for cheap accommodation on Sukhumvit preferably around Nana or Cowboy. By cheap I mean no more than 800baht(ish) but guest friendly and half decent room etc. I have looked on the net and it seems The President Inn and Business Inn get mentioned, just wondering if anyone has experience of these or any alternatives.
Any help much appreciated.

Thoroughly agree about Mandarin. I hit the place last week after a dismal few beers in Soi Cowboy (Baccara, Shark, Cowboy 2(?), Suzie Wong, Long Gun for the record), and it immediately cheered me up.
Great looking girls, friendly, and something for everyone (little spinners, bouncy breasted young things, pretties, tatted freaks, filthy old warhorses). OK so not quite everyone. No katoeys or ‘C’ team, but hitting Mandarin really got my evening going.

Welcome Mr.Radar!
The ‘long-termers’ here will easily be able to help you there.
You might want to let them know how long your intended stay is, and what part of the year, as you can do ‘deals’ off-season and for ‘long-stays’.
Also, don’t restrict yourself to a certain area. A motorbike taxi is cheap and easy. A 40bht taxi ride maybe the difference in 400bht per night hotel fee.
Over to the ‘long termers’….
Enjoy!

Hi Day Walker
Will actually be in BKK in the next few days looking to stay for a couple of weeks. You are right about not being too picky where to stay, like you said as long as I’m not too far away by taxi or relatively close to the skytrain that will do me fine if it saves some moolah on the accommodation.

Can’t help you with the Accom.. but get yourself to the Big Mango Bar and get yourself the ‘Bangkok Virgin’ shot.
- I hear they’re quite good.
Oh, and give the bell a ring when you get there. - This lets them all know you are new in town

@Mr Radar: If you’re on a budget, you might consider Honey House on Soi 22 — a short walk to Phrom Phong BTS, Asok BTS or Sukhumvit MRT, very close to Soi Cowboy.
http://www.honeyhouse.co.th/

Prices start at 690 baht per day or 4,500 per week.
Wi-fi, daily maid service, good restaurant downstairs

@Mr Radar, you might try the Playboy Hotel (PB hotel} Downstairs you have the short-time rooms and upstairs are the normal rooms.I stayed there a few times, the price used to be 800 Baht {2 years ago}.It has a good location, coming from Sukhumvit you walk in soi 3,go past the Grace Hotel and it’s in the next soi on your right.

A new hotel opened on Suk/Soi 8, about 500m down the Soi on the right, across from Royal Asia. I hear the rates are 900thb.
They have a tuk tuk that delivers you to the top of Soi.

So, when will we see a return of the days up to 2001 before Thaksin took office and Burachai launched the “New Social Order Campaign”?
Hollywood Strip on the third floor along with Carousel had some unconventional dildo shows. Then there was the butt-ugly hag who shoved three live frogs up her twat and proceeded to propell them down the length of the stage at the unsuspecting punters… There was so much nudity in NEP that we used to hit on the fully clothed waitresses for variety.

bb = who knows but sometimes I feel like it may lighten up a bit. i always think it is funny since cowboy is hot right now but cowboy used to suck and all the fun was in nana. I guess things come and go over time but hopefully things will loosen up.
It reminds me of the story of a guy sitting at a beer bar in nana trying to peak up the bartenders skirt hoping to see some panties. His buddy asked him why and he said he sees so much nudity all the time in nana that he wanted to see something he was not suppose to see.

@Bison: You’re as likely to see girls dancing buck naked as in a bikini in Cowboy these days.
Off the top of my head, the following clubs have girls dancing naked for at least part of the night:
Cactus Club (all the time)
Midnight Bar (most of the time)
Suzie Wongs (lesbian show)
Rawhide (frequent shows)
Five Star (midnight show)
Topless:
Upstairs of Baccara
Dollhouse (or maybe Shark… they’re next to each other and I’m easily confused)
Apache? (I haven’t been in the renovated Apache… when I was there last it was topless, though)
I don’t make it my job to keep accurate track, so others may have more accurate updates on the nudity around the traps.
Mandarin Club in NEP has girls dancing topless upstairs from about 9:00 nightly. All in all, Mandarin is starting to look a lot like Club Baccara with a more relaxed attitude.
Generally over the past few months I’ve been seeing bars closing between 2 and 3 a.m. A big change from the frequently enforced 1 a.m. that was common a year ago.
All in all, the level of nudity and closing times seem noticeably more relaxed versus a year ago. I hope the trend continues, though — personally — I’d rather not see the frog trick.

hi,
I’ve been reading posts here a while, so I decided to register. I have been to Bangkok a few times and had the most fun when I visited on my own after my divorce.
I will be in Bangkok for a while in November, I’m staying at Royal Asia Paradise hotel on Soi 8. I haven’t stayed there before, but it looks good. They advertise no extra charge for guests.
I’m quite comfortable cruising the bars on my own, but also happy to have a drink and a game of pool if anyone is interested. I drink very little alcohol; my focus is on other pleasures.
