Just a small note with a few bar bits that I have heard around the way. Rumors you might call them but from fairly reliable sources…

Joy Nguyen on cowboy has been bought out and will get a remodel. Not sure the time frame
The Shadow bar on cowboy that is currently being remodeled will be a beer bar. Possible short time facilities to be included. Good call.
The new club on Suk Soi 11 is being built by the Sin Bar crew. Let’s hope they do better than Sin Bar. God knows we need more clubs and this looks to be a monster project. ‘Bout time Bed and qBar get a wake up call.
Lots of bars for sale all around town but many on Soi 4.
- Hanrinhan’s. The big green monster seems to be quietly getting shopped around. Go figure.
- Chequers bar
- The Tavern

Not sure if this is low season claiming some victims are just evolution. Carry on!

Joy Ngwen: News to me. Was there earlier, but didn’t think to ask whether it had been bought. It still sucks though.

Shadow Bar: I have heard that it will be a gogo bar, a beer bar, a ladyboy bar and even a gay bar. I’m hedging my bets, but I’m sure you have better connections than I do. Anyone got an opening date?

Soi 11 club: I never go to soi 11. You win

Soi 4bars for sale: Add Rainbow 4, Rainbow 3 (maybe), Angelwitch, Mercury and I noticed Farang Connection was closed last night.

Mango A Gogo. I see a great need…

jn - I think it was a stealth buy. Bar was not advertised for sale. Same deal happened with the new shadow bar. Owners who are doing well are buying out the older bars.

sb - was told by the owner it would be a beer bar but he could be teasing me.

soi 11 - the new place look huge. Supposedly will have some special interactive bar top that u can play games on.

nana bars - I do not think the RB bars are officially for sales. The r3 and r4 are family owned and one of the brothers wants out but supposedly the other members are not wanting to sell.

in general with leases on the way I think some bars may be looking bad or closed or wanting to sell to help negotiate with greedy landlords.

aw - is a threat I believe due to relationships issues. hence the crazy asking price that everyone knows no one will give them.

Spankys is probably for sale too since towel head wants to focus on cowboy.

How ’bout we all get together, pool our cash and just buy the lot, then run all the competition into the ground? We can be our own best customers!

That’s funny.

How not to open/run a bar on Soi 4.

Give it an American name with American trimmings when America is the most hated nation on earth.

Wall it off to the public.

Charge too much for hamburgers and hot dogs.

Have a bunch of big (I mean big) Americans (I guess) drinking there.

And a really ugly katoy sitting out front this morning.

Up there with the Heidelberg for worst bar on the soi (although I hear the ‘berg has a mean schnitzel).

When its sold, can someone tell me what the total loss was.

Two other bar bits…the “After” club in Patpong II is no longer open. Not sure why since it seemed to be doing quite well. One less entry in the After Hours but wait, a new one has emerged:

There is a new After Hours club on Phetchaburi by Phet 45 called Dio. If you are going down Asok from Sukhumvit make a left on Phetchaburi and then it’s your first quick left. It’s a dingy looking club but has some life inside. You walk through the lounge downstairs and go upstairs to the disco. It’s rather small but the music is pumping HipHop and it’s quite the scene.

It reminds me of Pennyblack After Hours a few years ago. Similar to Pennyblack the owner also owns a bunch of GoGo’s and Beer Bars so many of the girls there are from the owner’s bars. In this case Playskool Pete’s wife is running the joint. PP and wife own/partly-own Suzie Wong’s, Sheeba’s, Apache, Playskool, Lucky Luke’s, etc. etc. The girls are there to party more than work and come for another reason which I mention below.

Went there Friday night and it was quite the experience. A friend told me about an After Hours club about a week ago that the working girls went to and barfine young thai guys. Well, Dio is that place. I couldn’t believe it but there were young Thai guys dancing on various podiums in the bar and the girls were going gaga and I even saw a few of them tip the young Boy Coyotes.

I think though that this bar is in transition from catering to working girls into what Pennyblack once was, an After Hours club that Soi Cowboy working girls can go to afterwards to party and possibly get some biz. PP’s wife was there Friday night and said they will be alternating Men and Women Coyote dancers on different nights.

Not sure what this club will become but it is fun as heck right now. We got a bottle and had a blast. Every After Hours demographic was represented. Men, Women, Ladyboy, Gay, Straight, Bi, Thai, Farang, Working, Not-Working. It was all there for whatever you were looking for.

Other specs…There was no entrance fee, the bottle of Jack with mixers was 2500 baht, and we left around 6am.

jd - the berg supposedly has some tasty food but I have never ventured in. I guess the hotel gets used but have never heard anyone talk about it.

jd - sorry - I mean mr positive. I think we said from day one that they received an official close order, which was supposedly viewable at the police station, but of course paid the money to stay open. I thought we were pretty clear about the situation.

Just a note to second that dio was a fun time. Go soon since who knows how long it will last. The funny thing was watching some of the normal Thai girls getting drunk and taking off their clothes while dancing. Something the usually all nude Sheba crew refused to do. Irony.

Re Joy Ngwen, I heard that Joy was the owner, and Ngwen (which is how it’s spelt on the sign) was their attempt at transliterating the Thai word for “money”.

Still a stupid name though.

Glad to hear that Hanrahan’s is on its way out. What an unfriendly place. The waitresses never say hello or acknowlege you in any way. All they do is hand you a menu and walk away then come back at their leisure to take your order still without a freindly word.

As always the fish rots from the head down so lets hope that new owners make some manor changes as the place has possibilities

Are you sure the directions are right? I thought you would have to make a right on Phet from Asok (via Suk)since Phet 47 is near the RCA entrance I assume Phet 45 would be reasonable close, but I could be wrong.

Phet Soi 45 is just to the west of the Asok/Phetchaburi (as per PMMP’s directions), just under the overpass. Soi 45 is on the north side of Phetchaburi, whereas Dio’s (per PMMP’s description) would be on the south side of Phetchaburi.

I’ve never been to the club named Dio, though I did go (a couple of years ago) to an all-night karaoke spot popular with some NEP BGs in the same general location that PMMP described as Dio’s. Dio’s could be in the same location as the old karaoke spot was, or could be in a new nearby spot.

Try not to get this one closed down.

I am not sure the street numbers but this is how you get there.

Go down asoke away from suk and towards petchburi. Go left on petchburi. Take your first left - the first one.

You will see a standard open all night thai food joint and keep going. You will see the place - called dio. Like DJ says - downstairs is the Karaoke joint. Upstairs - but you have to walk through the karaoke joint to get there is the club.

That place is really expensive for the girls. Boy drinks (can’t believe I said that) where 500 baht and and the barfine very high too. I heard from a couple of girls they got hooked on going for a while.

You will be immensely amused to know that your diatribe against the Tavern was printed out and circulated to what can only be described as a full house of patrons on Wednesday and was unanimously voted the premier spot over the urinal. We all applaud your efforts to promote what is probably the best bar on Soi 4 and look forward to your arrival to defend your insane accusations.

dw et all - I think there is some confusion here. No comparison of bars needed. This is not bar wars. I mentioned through a credible source that the Tavern was for sale. That is all. No big. JD commented on the Tavern and then Lavawizard2 is defending the Tavern. Leave it at that from my perspective. This is not a comparison.
