I hardly could believe my eyes when I saw this article on Asia Times. Seems to be reprinted from the Asian Sex Gazette but since it is with permission then my guess is that Atimes approves of it or is needing some sort of sensationalist content to jolt their pageviews. In general I agree with the premise that Khasosan is upscaling but has been for many years with the push by the Buddy Group to go after the better than backpacker crowd. Personally I don’t mind really but to somehow pin all the price rising and the upscaling on the sex trade seems somewhat of a stretch.

I wonder how the writer’s wife reacts to the fact that he seems to know his freeelancer rates. 
So basically this guy is labeling all PGs as freelancers and claiming that this new trend is the demise of Khaosan Road. Usually I find the pretty girls to not be like this at all but usually one can get a phone number or two easily. Interesting stuff but frankly I am a little disappointed in Asia Times since this is not a thoroughly researched stance at all and in my opinion not indicative of the normal goings on at Khaosan or the behavior of pretty girls. Sure - there is a scene in Khaosan but this article makes it sound like it is exploding with the sex trade and the pretty girls are leading the charge. I don’t think Pla is the norm but if so then I am focusing on the PG’s from here on out.

It is content originally written for Asian Sex Gazette, as u noted. I’ve seen “William Sparrow” as a byline on ASG before.
It’s unusual for Atimes to run anything from ASG but they’ve had that ad forever. Perhaps ASG ran out of funds and struck a barter-content deal. Who knows.
As for KSR, haven’t a clue.
