Poseidon
So I finally got to Poseidon. It’s huge. Located up on the big neon strip that is Ratchada, it’s about half-way between the Huai Khwang and Sutthisan MRT (underground) stations.
First mistake - my buddy and I got there at around 9pm. I’m no massage parlour connoisseur, but Smitty is. He reckons 5pm-8pm is the hot time to hit the soapies. Take heed.
The ground floor of Poseidon contains the karaoke rooms. There were a few cuties dotted around the main lobby, but none of them were mind-blowing. And for some reason, the blend of singing and sex has never really appealed to me. The receptionist took one look at the two farangs, and with a withering glance informed us that massage was on the 2nd floor. Nice.
The Fishbowl
Up we went, and walked into the fishbowl viewing area. A grinning Papasan took our orders for a couple of beers, and we took in the view. The going rate was ฿2,500 for two hours, including the room, we were told. Which would be nice, if there had been anyone I was inclined to spend two hours with.
There were precisely eight girls in the fishbowl, and none of them looked any more appealing than the fare to be found in a gogo. The lineup at Bangkok Cosy, for example, is much more impressive - both in numbers and quality.
But there was another floor to explore. The 3rd floor is the Models Lounge, which is where I’d been advised to look. It’s more expensive - prices start at ฿3,900, and you only get 90 minutes. But the girls can be, apparently, stunning.
“I think we’ll check out the third floor”, I told the papasan, as I caught him taking a break from his grinning gesticulations towards the girls.
His face froze. “Oh, very busy now sir”, he said.
“That’s fine, we’ll just take a look”.
“Lady here much better. Only ฿2,500″.
“Sure. But I’d like to see the other ladies too”.
His face fell, we paid for our Heinekens, and headed upstairs.
I can’t figure out whether he was hoping for a commission/tip from us if we took girls from the fishbowl, or if this was some sort of effort to keep farangs away from the models lounge. I’ve heard it said that the Asian customers (and we were the only non-Asians in the place) don’t appreciate sharing their women with us. Who knows…
The Models Lounge
The Poseidon Models Lounge seems to have been based on an airport executive lounge. It’s trying to be posh and sophisticated, but behind the polished veneer it’s just a room full of hookers. My buddy and I took a seat and ordered another couple of beers. At twice the price of downstairs, obviously.
Our flamboyantly gay waiter tried to recommend a couple of girls who’d clearly seen better days. “How can a gay bloke recommend girls?”, asked my poor bewildered pal. I had no answer.
Sure, there were a few girls dotted around who were paler than the usual gogo fare, but they weren’t anything special. I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m not sure what I was expecting, and I’m quite prepared to accept that we just got there too late in the evening, but Poseidon was a bit of a let-down. I’ll certainly go back though, earlier in the evening, and see if it’s any more impressive.
I decided not to indulge, and wandered across the classy models lounge into the classy bathroom, where someone was classily throwing up into the classy toilet. Nice.
We ended up getting the underground back down to Cowboy, so the evening wasn’t entirely wasted.

thats a bummer as was looking forward to treating myself on xmas day - i got a sneaking suspision due to it being high season no matter what time i get there all the good 1s will be taken - i have no qualms with paying top dollar for a stunner but as you said the middle of the road ones were no knockouts
any ideas on the logic behind the 1000baht surcharge?

The best girls at Poseidon are to be found by booking ahead, I'm told. There are apparently glossy catalogues which one can look through and pick a girl. I prefer to try and get a little rapport first, so this doesn't really appeal.
The farang surcharge is to discourage farangs from visiting. They're not going to turn your money away, but many of the Asian customers (and some of the girls) would prefer it if we didn't visit these places. See the review, where the papasan really didn't want us to go upstairs…

if walking in off the street id assume a decent standard of dress would be required otherwise id have an even harder time gaining access to the top floor - ill be leaving my scruffy board shorts, trainers and football shirt with 'jao chu' on the back at home

Didn't see any races other than East/South East Asian. Mostly Japanese, but I wasn't really looking at the blokes. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a fair few Korean, Thai, Chinese in the mix as well. We were the only farangs.
Dressing to impress is rarely a bad idea in these parts.

A few months ago a buddy of mine and I decided to start a Sunday afternoon off properly. We had breakfast at 1 PM with plenty of beer to smooth over our hangovers. We then went on a 'soapie crawl' with Poseidon being our second to last stop. The fishbowl was devoid of anything except two lumps on a log and the models lounge was as much of a letdown as the fishbowl. Drank our beers while perusing the 3 ring binder containing the 'models' available for order and then wisely moved on.
Just around the corner from Poseidon is Copacabana. My first soapie experience and still something I remember fondly. My buddy took a fishbowl girl of which there were dozens, and I picked a sideline girl (taking into account the advice of the very accomodating Mamasan). No farang surcharge to boot. The only thing I would suggest is forgoing the extra 500 baht for the jacuzzi tub as it didn't seem necessary.

I invested in Patong Phuket (Christin Massage) which was awesome, and had a shabby one in Silom (name escapes me), but these are in tourist areas whereas the others you talk about are less 'commercial' so worth a look

Always go with a rich Thai friend, I would never go there alone, I have been taken there more then a few times and the action is on the top floors, we always go to a private lounge room with Jacuzzi and private bedrooms leading off, there about six of us and we have to pick of the girls, they bring in 10 at a time and if you do not like then they bring another 10 some times they pre-ordered, some times two a piece we have a lot of games the girls get a bit drunk and we too and enjoyment is had by all. I have found the best food here and there is private bar with staff topping your drinks up, it’s a great place to lose yourself for four or five hours specially when some one else is paying. We with out a Thai are not welcome!

I visited Poseidon in May after reading some rave reviews.
Arrived at 5:30 friday night hoping to get the prime choices. The lobby had many cute karaoke girls but I headed straight to the second floor. But I still wonder if these girls like to/can play the same as at some Thaniya karaokes.
Five other customers were seated. One farang. So I found a nice place to look over the variety and ordered a beer. I began chatting with a papasan, Sucha. He was trying to be helpful and recommended a girl sitting in the middle of the bowl. He said, "She very good service. Boom boom good" with the thumbs up gesture. One glance and I preceived someone who doesn't attract much business anymore even though she had a full chest. She was in her late twenties and didn't look happy. His attempt to steer busines her way was obvious.
The papasan then informs me of the details. The fishbowl girls are divided into three groups. The large group on the left are the 2500bt/2 hrs regulars. About 35 girls sitting in a tight group.
The 7 girls sitting front middle were "part time better quality girls" 3000bt/2 hrs. They did look a bit better and dressed nicer but nothing inspiring.
The 6 girls sitting on the right were the "superstars." 3500bt/2 hrs. They were the best looking and best dressed. They displayed a relaxed posture while seated so I could view their figures better. 3 of the 6 were good looking and the papasan was encouraging me to chose. I asked about a farang charge and he said not have. Maybe because I can speak thai nitnoi. One superstar caught my eye but I was curious to checkout the models lounge. So up I went with my beer. The models lounge had 12+ pretty girls sitting in chairs. But I couldn't get a good view of any figures. Yes, they were all attractive. Their looks ranged from somewhat attractive to good looking. But nothing stood out as 3900bt good looking. So a few minutes later, I returned to the main floor and was glad my first choice was still there. She was 24 very friendly with a great attitude and had a killer bod. She spoke more English than I can speak Thai. We chatted waiting for the tub to fill. She didn't mind me playing with her bod while she sat on my lap. After the deed she asked if I was sabai and satisfied while she massaged my legs. She was eager to please throughout the whole session. While dressing she asks me to return to see her again which I told her I will. I didn't lie. I usually don't return and choose the same girl because I like variety. She was that good of an experience for me to want to see her again on my next trip next month. I don't remember her name or number but I'm sure I will remember what she looks like.

Think of the clientele the large MPs on Petchburi and Ratchada are mostly servicing - Thai businessmen on their way home from work - and you get an idea of when it is best to go. Weekdays between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. Not Saturday night at 9:00pm. Pick the right time and the models lounge is impressive.
I've also been to Poseidon a couple of times with rich Thai businessmen and the top floor private clubs are mind blowing.

The thing is, Poseidon is one of those places that really look creepy to me: a huge tower block, neon lights. All it brings to my mind is one of those places where they lock up the girls and just have huge amount of rooms.
Well, it is like that but the image just stays in my mind.
So can anyone then explain to me, why it is so huge and scary looking place? As in this report only the first three floors were explored. So what the heck is up there in other floors? I just cant shake the "prison" image from my mind…:-/

Well - the other floors are the rooms where the action takes place. The first three floors are just where you make your choices.
It is a huge place, and there are many just like it close by. They cater to the local Thai business men, and to the coach loads of Asian make tourists. I don't know if it is true or not, but someone once told me that some of the very large MPs in Bangkok have as many as 2000 girls on their books, with as many as 500 working there on some nights. So I guess that means they need at least 500 rooms….
Sorry - but I have no idea what it costs to get the top floor VIP treatment. The Thai guys who have taken me seem to be members, and I presume it costs a small fortune…..but to them the privacy, exclusiveness and impressions it leaves on their guests make it worthwhile. I am talking here about Thai's entertaining people like visiting Arab sheiks…
Last time I was taken it was with two visiting European businessmen who manage a major Middle East company and their Thai hosts made sure they wanted to come back to Bangkok real soon!
These same Thai businessmen have their own personal mama-sans who supply them with girls……who include top models and actresses. They once told me that if ever saw any great looking girl on Thai TV they could arrange a date with her within a week…but it would cost at least 15000 bht and perhaps more. I have not so far taken them up on the kind offer…

i liked this place. was there a few weeks ago and showed up around 6pm on a weekday. the fishbowl was full of about 100 women. went up to the model lounge and there were about 20-30 girls sitting on a couch. the selection was not bad. the mamasan showed us a book, full of beautiful pictures including penthouse photo shoots. she indicated one of the girls in the lineup was the penthouse girl, but closer inspection suggested severe photoshopping or it just wasn't her. my impression is that they have tons of photos and can conveniently point to a girl and say it's her. my experience was good, but not spectacular. i did see the most gorgeous, pale skinned, beautiful girl. but she quickly disappeared somewhere.
i'd be interested in going back and splurging on the vip treatment. anyone know what the cost would be?

Went there a couple of years ago. I'd heard about the place and decided that I had to give it a go. From memory it was about 5pm on a Wednesday. The place is a bit intimidating due to its sheer scale. Dunno if it's the biggest knocking shop in the world but if it's not, must be close ;)Took a taxi there, the taxi dude tried to steer me elsewhere (probably cos other places offer him commission) but I refused to be diverted.Seemed slick and well run. Was invited to leave my mini backpack in a locker in the lobby. No cameras etc allowed on the premises.Went to lower fishbowl room. There must have been 30-40 girls there. I wanted 2 girls who worked well together so asked papasan for recommendation. He pointed out 2 who were seated next to each other and to me they were as hot as any of the others but not total stunners. What did it for me is that they were smiling and looked genuinely keen and enthusiastic, so decided to take em.Up to room in swish elevator, got a wink from the security guard and led to Egyptian themed room with large sunken bath, mirrors and king bed. Both girls stripped off and one scrubbed and soaped my upper half, the other the lower half. Was skilfully done and have never been cleaner ;). Onto the main event, both were highly enthusiasic and pretty wild, not letting up until I was completely done (full 2 hours). Even did some light lesbo stuff but wasn't their speciality. - There is a 500 Baht farang surcharge at Amsterdam. They just don't tell you that.
- I too consider the selection in the model lounge at Amsterdam to be superior to Poseidon. There are also 3 Penthouse models that I know of who work there regularly; you just have to ask for them by name since they rarely sit in the lounge. I was there the other night and asked for one of them; she was busy upstairs and would be free in an hour… 45 minutes later papasan said the customer had paid for an addtional hour with her. I decided to leave since I doubted she would be up for much more after a 2.5 hour session.

- I think another reason farangs don't feel welcome is because the papa/mamasan's don't think they will get tipped and so ignore them. I always tip 200 - 400 baht depending upon how helpful they are in making a selection. Now when I enter the model lounge, the mamasan who has been the most helpful always comes running over to help me.

- Very true. Poseidon, Amsterdam, Utopia, Tarawadee… dress to impress on the first visit and you are much more likely to be attended to. Once you build a relationship with a mama or papasan, you can scale back on the dress code.

hitting the wrong time on a first visit is a killer as first impressions mean so much - if you have a lowsy experience you are unlikely to go back
Take Baccara for example - i went there 1 night and was thoroughly underwhelmed by the hype and didnt go for about 4months, then after persuasion and hearing further raves on this site i went back and was blown away

COST TOP FLOOR - I only saw the bill once when I was taken there by my Thai friend it was about Baht 160,000 just over 2K, it was for five of us, rooms, food and girls and the drink. I did not see the break down and it did not include the tips he handed out. We were there for about four or five hours. I was so surprized with the cost specially when he takes me there or some where like it when ever I am in town, last year I came to BKK eight times! I think the cost is about the same for these places for this special corporate event. Only the best girls are on the Top floors.

I think if your goal is to find stunners, you cannot ignore the MPs. They simply have a larger talent pool of girls than the bars/gogos, and many who are part-timers. They might not all be on the floor when you arrive, but these places have very cute girls on the extended roster, and not every one of them is high-priced. It is a matter of getting to know the place, and how things work. Same as withe bars/gogos.
As for value, it is more expensive in the short term than a barfine and ST. But you have to place some value on the soapie treatment: you don't get that from a bargirl in your apt/hotel. And there's a convenience factor. Trawling the bars is work. If you know the MP girl you can ring the MP and book her. No need to go back to the bar to 'see if she's there'.
If you are the type of punter that likes a quality regular on your "goto" list, I think the MP's are fertile ground for finding them, maybe even better then the bars/gogos. Pay the 2500, chat up the soapie girl, build some rapport, get her phone number and go from there.
Here's the key difference between a bar/gogo and an MP.
With a bar/gogo if you see the same girls twice she gets incredibly possessive.
With an MP if you see the same girl twice she is flattered. And assuming you have even the slightest charm, you can get her phone number.
The end result is the same with both… you have a girl that will see you regularly maybe even for free. But the bargirl may be a bit crazier and the MP a bit more down to earth (probably has a life outside of the MP).
Also in the bar if you see a stunner and she's not interested in you, paying attention only to Japanese customers, you're out of luck. But in the MP, you can book her. Then you get her one on one and work your charm.
But hey if you are the type of guy that just has to have a girl PICK YOU out in a bar, feel you up, etc. before you're convinced you can score with her, then MP's are probably not going to be great value for you vis a vis the bars.

I guess it comes down to your own personality, I haven't done a soapy yet in six visits, I can barely get a massage(1 - 2 per trip, except the last I didn't get any) and I have no idea why. Re Poseidion. By far the best system is to order ahead, but it requires some effort. You will need to make a few trips and look at the 'catalogs', most of these photos are lifted from Thai Penthouse mags. Get to know one of the mamasans (Mam speaks good English). First trip get there around 6:00PM, find a photo you like and get the mamasan to call and see if she is coming in that night, and if so what time (Probably half the girls will not have arrived yet, by around 7:00PM most are in play). After a couple of trips you will be able to call the mamasan and make a reservation. My Thai is fairly good and I have ran across a number of girls who are actually students, several secretarys, etc. A good proportion are from the North. Again a different experience from Cowboy, Nana, etc. and certainly more costly, but a highend treat.
By the way the top two floors comprise the Penthouse. Have rented this facility several times for large goups. 15 guys and 30 girls absolutely no problem. Royal Thai Police tend to have it reserved quite often however.

I love your write up, you really captured the spirit of the place. After having had some disappointing experiences on soi cowboy and nana the last couple of nights, I wandered over there this afternoon around 3pm, which is apparently when the third floor lounge opens. It took a while, but about eight of the "model" girls strolled out; most of them didn't appeal to me much, but there was one quite cute light skinned girl from Bangkok who I ended up choosing for 3900 baht (including the farang fee). She was quite nice to begin with and we chatted for a bit over tea in the sparse room (which was at least clean). The "soapy massage" portion was really quite clinical; I felt more like she was trying to get me completely clean than perform an erotic service (she even washed my hair). After the wash, we went over to the bed where she gave me a (covered, at my request) blow job; after maybe a minute of sucking she stopped — not nearly long enough for my liking! It kind of went down hill from here. Started having sex with her, she wouldn't let me touch her pussy at all, and ever minute or so she asked "finished?" (And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm in my early thirties, am in excellent shape and have about 12% body fat, so if that's the way she treats me, you can imagine how she is with the chubby fifty somethings!). After four or five "finisheds?" I got frustrated and came. Washed up and out a good 40 minutes before my time was up; there wasn't any offer of additional massages or anything else.
