Party over, go-go crawl and making a case for after-hours…

Well folks. We did it. 2 years and the 2 year party. Believe me - organizing the party at times can be more stressful than the 2 years were but everything came off okay and I think all who came had a good time. From pmmp and myself - we thank you for your support. Last night was the biggest night we have ever had and it makes us proud. pmmp will get some photos up for the non-weekly weekly.

Where to begin…

First off - in the news today - look out for your cats when u have a house party. I am surprised the vet did not prescribe a come-down brownie. The world is a strange place indeed.

Well as we mentioned we tried to do some real-time party blogging but all we had were good intentions. To be honest we were so busy that I had nowhere post from and we were all running around trying to keep the beer stocked and the free-burgers coming. Yes - we gave away a ton of free food folks so to those who missed out - sorry but you should have come. For those not in Bkk - my apologies. You have to thank pmmp for the outfits and the uni-girls. Tough job pmmp has lining up the talent and their outfits. ;) The swede and I did figure out how to make the popcorn machine work though and I think it was pretty damn good. All in all a great party and thanks again to all that made it.

On Friday night I met up with some buddies for a drink knowing that Friday was the day before the party and I promised myself to be good knowing Saturday would be a marathon. Well - I tried but sometimes things just steamroll on you. We did a quick pass around Nana and for a Friday night it was pretty slow.

We started off on RB1. Right now probably the best in Nana when it comes to women. Sure RB4 is rammed with the ladies but I honestly see very few I would barfine. The few I do like tend to be so full of attitude than I pass on anything but one drink. Rb1 has some decent tunes and enough cuties to pass the time.

BTW - what is it with the RB bars and music? They used to be all the same - in fact I figured they had one stereo somewhere and speaker cables running around the plaza to each of their bars. Not anymore. Each place seems to decide their own tunes. I think RB3 wins on the tunes. House music and decent techno for the most part. RB1 is pop tunes and some okay techno but usually the lame Thai style techno. RB2 is the worst. I have heard country tunes, old bad rock and the worst of all - old rock ballads. Just horrible for a go-go and you can tell the girls have no idea how to move when that shit is playing.

From RB1 we passed by Playskool. Passed by being the operative word.

We headed into RB2. Apart from the lame music I just felt that they had some of the worse girls going for RB bars. Some fatties, tons of 2 step shufflers(must be the music) and lots of tude. I had one drink and rolled.

Poppped by G-Spot but was accosted by a ladyboy at the door so I passed. I have no issues with the LBs but I will go to an LB bar when I want to see LBs. Next.

Then went upstairs to Caurosel. The shows are cool here if the showgirls are hot but for some reason the non-hot girls were doing the shows. Bummer. There is a nice waitress in there I like hanging with so I still have fun but the talent was low and to top it all off the place was quite warm inside. I asked my waitress about it and supposedly they are running only half the air-cons to save some money. My guess is the owner, who never seems to be around anymore, is hurting pretty bad. Warm go-gos are no fun.

Then we cruised down the stairs to RB3. Still like the place. Not quite as many girls as the other Rainbows but the music is the bomb, the average talent is nice and I like chilling in the booths. RB3 always a good option.

Back to the Mango and then on the way. But I was buzzed and feeling like I needed to explore. I knew I had to be up at a decent time the next day but I just did not feel like going home. So I went to the Tunnel. Absolutely rammed. This can be a bad thing given it is so busy and hard to move around but one trip around the floor and given the hottie ratio I had to stay. It is 500 baht on Friday and Saturday but you get 2 drinks.

The place was heaving and I think stayed open until 4 but I can’t remember since my battery died on my phone and I don’t carry a timepiece. At one point I started to hone in on a few targets. The first crew were a couple girls from RB3 but then I decided to look past the bargirls and instead I focused on the white girl and the Thai girl that were making out at the bar. I am a big fan of 3somes. I was confident I could at least chat them up but that plan was foiled when one of the guys that was in their group got thrown out for something. The girls went out with him and ruined my glorious plans.

Then I started focusing on another group of Thai girls - 5 of them to be precise. All pretty cute. It was tough to tell but my guess is there were not freelancers but just girls out to party and one of the reasons I love the Tunnel is due to the amount of nice non-working girls. I will get to this later in the post but let me finish the night off first. I hung close by and started chatting them up and they were friendly but not in an overt bargirl sort of way - exactly how I like it. Then one of the girls started coming on to me but it was not one of the ones I liked. It is Bkk. We get to be picky. So then the one I liked came over to say something to me.

She told me her friend liked me and I should talk to her more but I told her that I liked her and not her friend. She laughed and said she would tell her friend and then come back to drink with me. Awesome. We chatted a bit and then I went to the bathroom but when I had come out they were closing the place down. I think it was like 4 Am so the place had a good run indeed.

We all funneled outside and I ran into the girls in the parking lot. The tall one had waited for me and wanted to go to Spicy. So we did. 5 girls and me jammed into the Taxi. The inconveniences we constantly put up with in Bangkok in order to bring you this blog. At Spicy we ran into morefun and the crazy brit  who decided to come join our posse. I assume it is my cunning sense of humor that brought them over but later I heard morefun tell someone it was the girls. Whatever.

I can’t tell you what time we left but sometime just before the sun came up my girl asked if I wanted to go to her apartment to hang out. Sure. I am big fan of going to random girl’s apartments. Why not? I am not sure where we went but I do remember that it was a 150 baht motorcyle ride in the morning to get back to Suk Soi 4. Nice one.

We hung out in the apartment chatting and drinking with her friends. Then the girls took the couch and I was told I was in the bedroom with my girl but that I was to keep my hands off her. Okay. She did not mentions that she did not have to keep her hands off of me. I love the Tunnel.

Back to After-Hours. When I first started coming to Bangkok, bars were generally open a lot later than they are now. Then things started to close earlier and earlier and the whole idea of after-hours got to be more important. At first it was just things like Boss and Nana Disco. Not bad but nothing compared to Spicy or the Tunnel. For a while the hands down favorite was Tequila Dragon on Suk Soi 7/1 but as of late that place has died a cruel death by the hands of Spice on Suk Soi 11. Right now though the after-hours scene is hopping and some of the best options for pulling in the city and not just pulling working girls either but pulling in general.

Seems with Boss 2 coming on and possibly a brand new entrant - after-hours is the place to be right now. For those of us who work in the bars, many time we can only go out after-hours. Keep in mind though that this is the same for girls who work in bars, coyote clubs, hotels and restaurants. Normal girls but not the office type who don’t go out. This is what I love about the Tunnel - they are all there. On Friday I saw Nana plaza girls, Soi cowboy girls, girls from 2 member clubs, some staff from the Hyatt, some South American models, some cute Farang tourists, and tons of regular Thai girls looking to party. This is where Spicy and Tunnel tend to be different. There are sets of girls who will go to the Tunnel that will not go to Spicy. Just the way it is. So I say go to Tunnel first and see if it leads to Spicy.

As for Spicy - it is the place to go late late or after the Tunnel closes unless you just bypass the Tunnel and head straight to Spicy. Spicy is heavier with the working girls and dedicated freelancers but you can still find some diamonds in there. I don’t think you will find the international models in there and if they are Farang tourists they usually are not the cute ones but you will see “pretty girls” in there, member clubs girls and regular girls in there to party. Just do the loop and keep your eyes peeled. The regular girls tend to come in groups of 3-5 while freelancers are on their own or in groups of 2. Just a casual observation.

Point is. After-hours is not the dumps of the Bkk scene.

I think it can be some of the best in town. Happy hunting!

I’m a bit surprised to hear that “normal” Thai girls go to the Tunnel. Maybe it depends on what one calls a “normal” girl. To me a normal Thai girl has a decent job, which means she wakes up before 7AM, and she might go to party with friends at RCA or TongLor, but she will not stay up until 4AM…

j - thanks. we will be here.

s - I guess it all depends on your definition of it. The reason I think they will go to Tunnel is because it is a cool club - just happens to open and stay open late. Most girls in office jobs are not working on Sundays and some not saturdays - so they do go out. Especially if they are just in school and not working.

I am not saying it is rammed with them but some are there. Also I consider girls who work in the hotel industry to be normal girls given some go to school for it and make more money working in the hyatt than say an office. these girls go out after hours since that is sometimes they only time they get out.

We have met girls many times who after they closed rca or thonglor for a birthday or a special reason decide to stay up all night. u won’t see them in spicy but will in tunnel from time to time.

    plenty of freebirds as well…
