Well folks. Thai visa had a link about it but I happened to be walking by the new McCafe in the CP tower on Silom to verify the existence of McDonald’s breakfast in Thailand. From 5am to 11am everyday in 4 branches. CP Silom, Ramkamhaeng, Pattaya and somewhere else that I can’t remember. I will most likely get to Silom in the morning to review, photo it and indulge.
In case anyone needs to ask. This is a big deal. Our original post about this was quite busy.
I predict hordes of happy people embracing this news.
this is one of the best posts on this blog ever. thankfully it’s august 20th, not april 1st

k - thanks for understanding the significance of this news. I just finished my last morsel of a sausage mc muffin with egg. Nothing short of amazing. They seem to be making them with the similar precision of Japan. I am more than impressed with the quality and taste. Life is looking pretty damn good right now.

stopped by this morning at CP tower. I haven’t been there in some time I guess, as the whole place has been remodelled to have more of a cafe feel to it (i.e. cushy chairs, small tables and bar seating). they have all the breakfast goodies, except for the pancakes unfortunately. i’m not sure how many people know about the breakfast, as there were kids eating chicken mcnuggets and some thais eating burgers. why they’d do that, especially at 6:30 in the morning, is beyond me. then again, why you’d go there for anything except the breakfast (and maybe the fries) is a mystery.

I can’t wait to extinguish my next hangover with the grease of two sausage McMuffins.

k - totally agree. It is ONLY about the breakfast.
NMT - exactly. Nothing is better in my opinion for a HO.

The Farang Eat too Much!
View all comments by Donny
Been taken a beating on this one from a few people. I never go to MC D’s. I don’t eat any of the grub but for the breakfast I make an exception. A Sausage McMuffin with egg and cheese, a fresh hash brown and some OJ is just heaven after a big night.
Plus it is cheap.

Sorry Smitty, but I’ve been in and around Thailand and SEA for a long time and don’t understand why western food is so important. I’d much rather have a good SEA meal, especially breakfast, than a farang one…anytime!
The best breakfasts I’ve ever found, in any country (and I’ve lived in more than 5 for over a year), are in SEA. In Thailand noodle soup (kiaw diaw) is great as is the previous nights curry. When I am in the Sukhumvit area of Bkk I often return to my favorite place for rice with barbeque pork (khao muu daeng) for breakfast.
The two best places I’ve found in Bkk for this meal are out by Ramkhamhang U. (sorry I can’t remember the name or location exactly) and on Suk Soi 23 about 100+ meters up from Sukhumvit and directly across the street from the barber shop I often use that is almost next door to the Love Scene restaurant (a place that really gets busy after the bars close, often open until 6-7am) and just down the road toward Sukhumvit from Cowboy.
This daytime restaurant (Aroy something, in Thai, also has kiaw diaw) has been around for years; I’ve been eating there every weekend for lunch for the past 30 years (when I am in town) and can’t think of a better place to go for breakfast or lunch, especially now that my favorite kiaw diaw place on Rangnam Rd. has been displaced. Before the Skytrain I used to take the 38 bus from Victory Monument and get off on Asoke/Sukhumvit to eat at this place.
I know alot of folks like western food and (based on the comments of people from your blog) I am probably an anomaly among your readers, but I can’t think of a single reason to eat farang food when I am in Thailand or anywhere in SEA. Maybe once a month I try it, if I’m with friends, or if I expect a big drinking night (with friends) I sometimes go to McDs to get a hamburger beforehand, as nothing is worse than having spicy Thai food come through your nose when your are sick after a night of partying and have drunk a bottle of spirits.
I guess I am different from most of your readers/customers, but I first come to SEA (if I don’t come here for work) because I love the food, it is THE best in the world, and because I like the climate and ambiance (warm and peaceful). I next come because it is cheap and then because Thai women really are fun. I think Thai women are among the most fun and interesting women to be around, but I certainly wouldn’t come to Thailand solely for that reason. There are LOTS of reasons to be in Thailand!
Someday I’ll retire, probably to LOS, and I will visit the Big Mango more often. I love the fact you have both Beer Lao and San Miguel-both the light and the real versions! No place in SEA has these options that I know of. Of course the best Beer Lao is found in Viengchan (draft), and there are plenty of places in Viengchan and Vang Vieng Laos where Beer Lao is available, but if you have to go with bottles, then the Big Mango is perhaps the best place in SEA to drink beer as you have lots of options. Great place, good food, and reasonable prices.
While my favorite hamburgers in SEA are at the Freebird Bar/Restaruant in Phnom Penh, all the western food at the Big Mango is pretty darn good and I like the recent taco addition, which could also be a good breakfast addition if one is in the mood for western food, as could your hamburgers. I enjoy hanging out at the Big Mango as it has a GREAT view of the plaza and all the action.

chris - I hardly eat western food but nothing beats, and I just had one, a sausage mcmuffin with egg when one is either still partying or hungover. The thought, of any Asian food, when I am hungover or still on the piss is revolting.
I NEVER eat the burgers at Mcd either.
Thanks for the other bits on where to find some tasty food and thanks the compliments!
If you ever want to write a more detailed review on the food places that would be great stuff for the blog!

I think the difference between Smitty and me in what to eat when drinking (before, during, or after) has alot to do with eggs. I detest them, especially the reconsitituted tings at fast food restaurants.
Except for khao muu daeng and khai yat sai (stuffed egg omlets), and fried rice (the latter two with Sri Rachaa sauce) I don’t care for eggs, but because I prefer something bland and hamburgers are easy to find and fit the bill, I like them. But rice porridge (khao tom) works very well, but it is hard to find except at early morning places; rice really soaks up the alcohol, and I prefer rice over meat and bread after a long night on the town. Sometimes I think that a cup of rice must be able to soak up a full liter of alcohol, amazing!

fyi - the 4th location is the mcdonalds that is just outside khao san raod on your way back to central bkk.

I found myself awake and hungry at sunup this morning, so I walked to McDonald’s at Robinson’s Department Store near Sukhumvit Soi 15. (A quick peruse of the list above doesn’t mention it, but this location is serving breakfast until 11 am every day).
I found, upon close inspection of the menu, that instead of a sausage & egg McMUFFIN, I was being offered a sausage & egg BURGER. The difference, I learned when the time came to eat, is that the Bangkok offering is served on a standard hamburger bun instead of the traditional English Muffin. Slightly disappointing, but not tragic.
I arrived at the restaurant just past 6 am and had to wait about 25 minutes until they opened at 6:30. I was rewarded with food that was hot and tasty. I started with two burgers, hash browns and a drink. When that was done, I returned for two more burgers before returning home with the flavour of American sausage rising with every burp. Highly satisfying!
If you spend time in the Sukhumvit area — breakfast at McDs, Ground Floor Robinson’s Dept store from 6:30 am to 11:00 am daily. I think the set menu (muffin, hash brown, coffee) was priced at 79 or 89 baht.

ww - good info. I am confused though. Do they have the actual breakfast items or are they faking it? The 4 locations that I know serving the breakfast have the real sausage with egg on the real english muffin. thx

@smitty: The location at Robinsons has regular McD egg, sausage, bacon, cheese & hash brown, but NO ENGLISH MUFFIN. The breakfast items are served on a hamburger bun. Not bad, but not exactly the same, either.
