Bkk back on?

It was Friday night and time to go exploring. I needed off of the normal scene and a buddy called with a suggestion. Last year he had went to this little Thai bar over the river and off the main drag. He was sure he could find it again and hopefully reconnect with one of the girls working there. The plan was to get her to take us to somewhere new - somewhere without any Farang. Sounds good to me.

Madness ensued…

We headed down Sathorn and over the bridge and stayed on the main road. Once you head over it is not Sathorn anymore but ? . We got to Soi 34 - which also has a Thai restaurant where you catch your own prawns. I gotta try that place but we did not have the time on this outing. We followed the neon and found the bar. With a Thai name I cannot remember but it is next the law office specializing in the Law of Ice. Go figure. I tried to get a picture of it but no flash on my camera phone.

We cruised into the bar and took a seat. The bar is almost like a restaurant with a small stage. The girls are wearing short shorts or skirts and bikini tops. The girls all wear a bra under their bikini tops. They take turns singing and sitting with customers and drinking. There are no lady drinks and they share your booze. Our bottle of Benmore with mixers was like 700 baht. The girls get paid when you buy a garland for them that ranges from 100-300 baht. This is put on your bill and the staff go and give the garland to your chosen girl. Usually this means the girl will sit with you for the duration. The girls also do not get a salary so they come and go as they please. Out of the 10 or so girls there were 3 hotties. The one that my friend knew and 2 others. They all had big boobs.

Granted I am not saying rush right out to this place but we were told there were many places like it in the area and some have like 50 girls. My guess is with that many girls there must be a few hotties. There are no barfines but my friend has confirmed firsthand that you can follow up with them and have some fun. You just have to work it a bit.

The point of going though was to ask one of them where the Thais go to party in that area since it is not Farang centric at all. They gave us some suggestions like ID4 - a disco? The Star - a Hollywood like place with no Farang and lots of coyote dancers? Getting interesting. But then - a couple of them chimed in and bantered a bit in Thai and talked about another place. The description sounded almost too good to be true. We confirmed the location. Double checked with a taxi driver and we went. It was amazing.

We closed the place up at 3:00 am and then headed for the Tunnel. It was rammed. We had to wait outside to get in. I have never seen so many people in the Tunnel. There are a lot of guys and the place is not like Spicy but the music was pumping and there were tons of girls. However when the Tunnel is full it is not the most fun place to party. No way to get around, not enough aircon and takes a while to get a drink. I am happy they are busy but it was almost too full. I think there is plenty of pulling potential in the Tunnel though.

We blew out of the Tunnel and went to Spicy. It was the perfect time to be there but the quality of chicks was pretty low last night. I was bummed. However we did a Big Baby Kenny TWG interview.

We ran into a girl, literally since she was drunk, that recognized us and wanted to sit at our table. She is one of the regular circuit freelancers and being it was 5 in the morning and she was still out - we assumed things were not going so well for her. So my buddy asked where she had been.

  • Started at Gulliver’s Suk Soi 5
  • Then went to Hard Rock Siam Square
  • Then Gulliver’s Khao San Road
  • Then Spassos - no member card needed just buy a drink ticket.
  • Then to Spicy

She had not been able to get a customer. She had spent about 1500 baht of her own money by this time. She had some drinks bought for her - she was drunk. She was good-hearted about it all and was laughing about it but you could tell it was not how she wanted her night to go.

Anyway. Bangkok was super busy last night. I cannot tell if it is holiday related, coming out of low season or just a quirk. However it was great to see places busy and I am sure all the bar owners around town were very happy. Let’s hope Bkk is turning things around a bit.

Back to my research work…

We need the address, the name of the bar, and, um, details. Please :)

If BKK was really “back on”, you would have been back at home in the sack with a semi-hottie (at least) before midnight.

BBB - yes. we all do but I was sworn to secrecy by the round table. So my lips are sealed. We will write about it more as we slowly peel back the layers of some of outer bangkok’s hidden hotties as I call them.

Jack - oh jack. we go through this all the time. I get laid plenty but I like to party. going home before midnight could not be more boring. I got laid in the afternoon. The nighttime is for partying.

smitty : I hate that secrecy bullshit.

Just cross the taksin bridge, you have a few places on the street ( mostly end of the street ) where thais go, here you can pick up a lot of info just ask the thais.

At the end of the street turn left, a few bars, pool places and so on. Once again easy job just go in buy a thai a drink and ask him where the party is.

Even further I suggest petkasen road, bars, disco ( the palladium 120% thai ) pool bars, and massage parlours ( melrose plaza ) even an “entertainement complex” ( don’t remember the name but easy to find, big entrance with pictures of hot girls on the walls ). There are a few “sexy bars” again 100% thai near Siam university too and the list goes on.

There are probably a ton of cool places on the side sois but I haven’t checked yet. It’s a big zone.

The secrecy stuff is really not needed, it’s too far for most, speaking thai is nearly mandatory and people are lazy anyway so they will prefer staying in their usual haunts.
And you already went too far anyway talking about that zone if your secrecy crap was for real.

rrr - sorry. not trying to be a pain. promised some folks I would take them there before we blew it open on the blog.

Sorry - once we say it everyone knows it.

I was not going to mention it but was hoping others who knwo the area might know of it or others like it.

I figure someone will chime in with the name if they know the area anyway. you just named a bunch I did not know about.

it is a big area so I figure people can explore and find some stuff out for themselves. I give a lot of places out as it is so I figure some will chime in with others that people don’t know about.

Was not crap by the way and I appreciate your comments.

Many people have mentioned melrose - may have to check that place out.

wondered if anyone has done star or id4?

smitty : do you really think there will be a farang invasion of the bankae area soon? I don’t. And as you said the place is big, a lot to discover.

Sorry if I seem a bit harsh but if i’m teased I like to go the whole way, same same with ladies.

Anyway, that area is a good start, I m pretty sure there are tons of places like that around/hidden in/ bangkok, so let’s go and explore fortune favors the bold.

rrr - I hear and not trying to be a bitch.

there are quite a lot of readers and a core group that I promised not to say until we got more time there. Not all of our farang brothers are cool and can ruin a place. We were told that hardly any farang go there and they found it surprising that we were there. For sure if you don’t speak Thai there would be no reason to go there. I figured if people are familiar with the area they will know the joint. That was all really.

Bankae needs some more exploring. This other place was in another district but I did not recognize the name. I am sure there are other complexes like it. I surely hope to find more and lay the place out some more as I get more familiar with it.

I am most curious as to how one can play the girls in these types of Thai only joints.

I promise to divulge more names as I confirm addresses, names of places and so on.

This is a longterm process. Like a good mystery.

Bangkok is huge and there are many, many areas. My first real rush was taking a bus down New Petchburi Road in the early 90s…I felt scared, lost, enthralled.

This was THE area for GI R&R in the 60s until Patpong came into its own. Back then, there were huge Thai-style comedian nightclubs, and massage parlors.

Even though my Thai was limited, I found I could venture into these places and get great service. I think few of them still do business…as Bangkok became more popular, the magnets of PPong/NEP/Cowboy attracted the farangs while Ratchada has gotten the pan-Asian crowd.

As many have pointed out, su-peaking passa-Thai is make-or-break with these excursions. And hopefully you won’t mind being a center of attention for no reason whatsoever other than…you ain’t Thai. mai pen rai, rinse, repeat.

So for those in the know, let me ask you:

    two words.

    Saphan Kwai?

Still a ton of massage places on Petchburi. Farang no problem.

Saphan Kwai is definitely worth a visit, but yes - phoot pasa Thai is vital.

Regarding the ’secrecy’ deal. I spotted a small Thai bar on Polenchit years ago that was showing ‘next day’ videos of all the NFL games. This guy had a service that delivered videos of all the Sunday games from the states. You knew it was a Thai bar as the only spirits they sold was Johnnie Walker and Chevis, and the only beer was Kloster ! I ended up taking some friends there and soon there were 6-7 of us going through-out the week. Sure enough, the guy stopped showing the games even though we were spending loads on beer and food. It was like we spoiled his clubhouse or something.

On Smitty’s recommendation I hit Spicy on Friday night too. What a great venue! The quality of women seemed quite OK to me - saw 2-3 real stunners at least - but then it always seems like that when you have a bird in tow. Plus the quality was better between around 2.30 & 3.30. By the time we left after four it was pretty cock heavy.

bo - correct. sometimes we stumble or work quite hard to find something different. Hard for me to give that all up here since the place could get spoiled or too farang friendly thus ruining the whole appeal in the first place. tough call.

it’s a big city.plenty for all and will do my best to suss things out and share.

co - the prime hour is 2-3. or 5 on when the girls get desperate. I think during the week is the best at all these places. mondays can be quite surprising as well.
