@ Ma - I'm gonna let that AVS comment go...you must have been drunk when you made it... :) I'll be in BKK 10 Sep until 14 Sep and then back around the 23 Sep for 3 days. I'll make sure the un-metered taxi gets me to you. Hope we can get together.

Shooter, Hell, my friend, it’s good to hear that a true Canadian will die while still gripping his Crown Royal…..ahhhh that luscious drink in the groovy blue velvet bag…. it makes my mouth water just talking about it! I miss my CR… I actually used to buy it at the Thai airport and bring to over to China with me until they stopped allowing more than 100ml of liquids on the planes. Damn 100ml is only good for one drink! As far as your reply, not harm taken, I actually enjoyed it. I am a bit sarcastic myself if you haven’t noticed so far. But I take you as a wise man and respect you for your honesty. I am sure, as others readers on here alike, have traveled the world thoroughly. I, myself, have only seen SE Asia, North and South America, although I did take my first trip to Sweden earlier this year. I plan on doing more traveling to Europe and Australia after I retire in a few years. That is if I live that long and my beautiful Thai wife will allow us. And I’m serious, let me know when you arrive in BKK, I am there once a month for a week and would be glad to hook up and share some stories. Hell, I don’t know much about Canada except that I always wanted to do some muskie and pike fishing there since I was a little lad, and the fact that you all have the finest whiskey I always drink along with a great hockey team you provided to us in Colorado…. Go Avs!!!!

@Ma - You're out of your mind, son....no amount of hand holding will get you 4 bottles of Crown from any self respecting Canadian, I don't care what part of the world you're in. That being said, I give you points for asking for Crown by name.....we may find some common ground yet.

You went and spoiled a whole day for me. I was going to ask a tuktuk driver to take me to the best tailor shop in BKK and have some suits made with the profits from reselling my gems. Oh well, back to the soapie for me.

You thought right, I have gained some wisdom in my travels and I know you were having fun with me. I had a good laugh and was actually quite flattered I was the target of your barbs. After re-reading mine though, some of it might have sounded less than gracious, and I do apologize if you got that impression. I have a pretty good sarcastic streak and it might not have translated too well in writing. The part about me travelling is true. Been to a lot of places and seen alot of things, but from what I've heard, there's no place like Thailand that could compare.

As far as my Middle East adventures......part of my job....got to keep the world safe for democracy and all that. I'm sure we'd have a few interesting stories to tell each other. Hell, some of them might actually be true.....first rounds on me.

Damn Shooter…… How do you know me? I really am just a 12 year old junior high school girl living in my Grandmother’s basement using our dial up Internet connection haggling all you newbies heading to LOS predicting your virginity losses. No, really, when do you get into BKK? I would love to hold your hand. Of course it will cost you four 750ml of that fine Canadian Crown Royal. I will be back in BKK at the end of August…. (24th)…. That is if my Grandma removes my grounding she placed on me for running up the phone costs. I promise to keep you away from all the tuktuk touts, gem stores, and tailor shops…. And direct your attention to all the beer bars, soapies, massage parlors, etc….. until your ‘lil man’ can not take it anymore…. But please let me know so that I can arrange to get a passport since I never have had one before… By the way, my first experience in BKK was back in 1998. It was something that I will never forget and at being my age, I have a lot of good memories, of Thailand and elsewhere. I guess I was one of the few lucky ones, I had a colleague “hold my hand” during my first trip and I’m not one of those footing the vet bill for the buffalo. As BBB stated, it was only a humorous scenario I placed regarding your future. I hope, and think, that you are a much wiser man than that. Although you stated you had traveled the Middle Eastern countries, and I ask myself, why would anyone want to go there? My only thought would be to make a quick $$$ in a dangerous environment.

Heh, no worries. It can be tricky to determine the "tone of voice" people mean when reading written posts - something like 90% of communication is non-verbal. I think most "flamewars" are started when people take comments seriously that were meant as jokes.

For my own part, if in any doubt, I'm usually taking the piss. This is, after all, the cornerstone of British humour. Many of us are playing characters in these little exchanges too, lest we forget.

I try to nip any hostilities in the bud, but nothing wrong with a little fun. You guys go ahead - no scratching or hair-pulling though...

@Shooter: Ma's prediction was in good humour, and you do see people heading down that path here. Obviously they don't read the site. I'm sure you'll be fine, but I'm sure you'll make a few newbie mistakes as well. Everybody does, and I certainly did. It's all about having fun though...

@Heckler: Would that be "Ouch! Ouch! Stop hitting me!"?

@ Ma - WOW....Ma you sure paint a rosie picture. Wondering if you are recalling your first trip. How's your adopted Grandma doing....still paying the monthly life support bill?

This might be my first trip to Thailand, but its not my first time around the block. Been all over the world, spent 3 yrs in Europe, 18 months throughout the Middle East, and spent time in more countries than I care to name. I'd even dare to say my experiences have been just as if not more "adventureous" than yours. I'm assuming here that you actually get out and the extent of your social life isn't in your mom's basement on the computer.

One thing I like to do is get a feel for where I'm going. Travel books and the web can only tell you so much and you have to agree, Thailand is one of the more exotic and unique places in the world and lets not forget the constantly changing part. So why not ask the people who know what they're talking about. I'm sure that BBB had some intention of helping a few ignorant tourists as myself when he created this web site and for that I am eternally grateful.

But if you're concered for my welfare, Ma, perhaps you could meet me at the airport, take my hand, and keep me safe from all the bad people who would try to exploit my good nature......or....here's a thought.... I can take the advice and info that BBB and friends have given me, apply some of it to my trip, maybe get burned a bit (I'm a big boy though and should come through it fine) and have a good time.
@All - Well, I hope I put Ma's fears to rest. He has to stop caring so much....its going to eat him up inside. Again I want to say thanks to all of you who have helped me so far. As I said before I'll throw my 2 cents in once in awhile and share my experiences when I get back. Thanks again.

@ Ma - Love you, Man

Why is everyone giving Shooter advice? Here's what I foresee:

Shooter arrives for the first time at Suvarnabhumi for his first visit to BKK. He is touted by the upstairs limos and pays 5x more than he should to get to his hotel of choice. He then arrives at the hotel, checks in, takes his bags to his room, and hits the shower. He dashes to the first beer bar he finds before closing. He eyes out a pretty and young hottie in the bar. He barfines her for the night and goes back to his hotel room. After a night of delightful shagging he goes back the next night and barfines the same girl for his entire two week vacation. While never leaving his hotel room except to eat, his two weeks of vacation flies past so fast he wonders where it all went.

Off to the airport with his 'teeluk' in hand, cying her eyes out and desperatly pleading for him to return, Shooter promises to return in 3 months.

Shooter arrives home, tries to find a way to quit his job and move to Thailand all while sponsering his new love from afar.

His new love, with ailing Grandma and sick buffalo live happily ever after.
