I totally agree with the essence of this post - the difference between living here and being on holiday is huge. I too rarely pull from a Go Go bar these days and usually rely on the girls behind a bunch of numbers in my phone. Collected over time (in one case a girl I met 10 years ago) these girls would all fall into the "freelancer" category. None of them, to my knowledge, has ever worked in a bar.

I think the longer you live here the more pragmatic and fussier you get - if that makes sense. ie. you want great quality but are not going to put up with prima-donna bs and usually have the language skills to deal with it efficiently.

Learning to speak Thai also opens up whole new territories that simply would not be on the tourists beat. Years ago, I used to regularly get mobile numbers dropped in my lap whilst drinking a bottle of black in Phuture - many nights I was the only farang in the joint, and only by speaking Thai was it possible to pull...

Let me third it and then answer.

Got them from a friend who had bit torrented them.

So far I have not seen them for sale around thailand because the vendors don't seem to realize there are episodes 13-21 that are part of season 6. They think season 6 ended at episode 12. For quality TV show for sale I go to Maew in MBK. 2 or 3rd floor I think. They have everything but yet to have the finale of Sopranos as of a few weeks ago.

coolio?

One very easy way to not get ripped off by the ladies is to keep your cameras, wallet, money, credit cards, etc in a safe or at the front desk (in the lock boxes). If you do keep a little cash around to pay for the fun, keep just what you would have paid the lady + tip. The only things I keep in my room are my clothes and personal stuff (deodarant, razor, etc). I also keep the suitcase open - let's em look inside and realize that there is absolutely nothing of value.

If I lived in an apartment, it may be a different story. I'd keep all the expensesive stuff locked up in a safe and anything left out in the open wouldn't be missed. That goes for the laptop as well - LOCK IT UP !!!!

I don't understand why people flaunt their goods / money and then leave it out in the open while they pass out - and then wonder why their lovely lady would steal from them.

So far, I've never had anything missing from my hotel room (3 trips - 30 days / nights total - Pattaya, Bangkok, Chiang Mai).

Cheers :)

Its always good to be a little cautious when dealing with a freelancer. If you wake up in the morning with your camera and money missing along with the freelancer from the previous night, chances are she will be hiding out or hanging in a different area than where you found her.
If you bar-fine the girl at a gogo club, you can go to the club and talk to the manager about her and the situation that took place.

I agree with post. The itinerary for people is different depending on your post. My friends and I only use the go go's for a warm up. Drink a couple bears, stare at naked girls then move on. Freelancers are by no means the cast offs. CM2 and Spicy are good examples of freelancers who don't work in bars (yes I know lots of bar girls go to spicy after they finish, but not all the girls there are bar girls). A lot of freelancers are better looking than the bar girls too.

For my part I discovered 'The Farang Speaks 2 Much' through a google-search for "spicy club" and I really dig this blog. Since then I read it daily or almost daily. It also incited me to have a look at The Big Mango so I suppose it did his job well...
Anyway folks, thanks for the good job you are doing!
