BOSS Club #2 - The Smorgabobs of Bangkok

I like food buffets in principle but in practice they are never quite what they seem. Too much food, nothing really prepared well, and usually pretty expensive. Most of my experience with buffets was in the states and sometimes no matter how good the food or company was u would invariably see something u did not want or need to see. Some huge professional buffet goer with a pile of food, a grisly looking site since not all food combos look good together - wolfing down the portions like eating was soo to be an extinct art. It would always ruin my appetite. However - the buffets in Thailand are pretty damn good. I must admit the buffet at the Grand Hyatt Erawan is one of the best on the planet. Let’s get to the other style of buffets that I like in Bangkok - after hours clubs. Last night I visited a new one(meaning new club). I will call it Boss Club #2.

After hours is a strange thing around Bangkok since to be clear - everything is technically suppose to be shut down by 2 or 3am. Mileage may vary but this is the law. However given Thailand is a military run country with poorly paid police u will always find a way around the rules. U just got to pay. We have discussed many times all the various after hours stuff but for reference just go here. We also try to list what is happening after hours in the weeklies as well. In general if a place pays well and has a good police relationship then things tend to go okay. Location also has a lot to do with things since if the bar is a little out of the way then police tend to let things go a little bit. Boss club(the place to meet girls who say they are not working but will go home with u on the first night, sleep with u but need 1000 baht for the taxi) by the big C is a good example of a fairly reliable after hours place. A flipside to this would be the Tunnel on Long Suan. Good location but the police seem to not get a long to well with the owners and the club is constantly getting shut down early. Note to users - just type Tunnel into the search box on the upper right of the blog to see all the posts about tunnel. U don’t even need to click enter just type in Tunnel and see what happens.

Before I get to the new spot I wanted to discuss for a moment the whole after hours issue. For the record I think all the bars should be able to go later - say 4-5am and that anyone breaking the rules should be shutdown. After hours clubbing should not be forced underground and properly licensed bars could stay open if they wanted to. Clubbing would be better all the way around and tourism would also pickup. Anyway. Back to the new Boss club.

Rongmuang Soi 1. This is an area just a few streets behind MBK. Some of the taxis will know about Rongmuang Soi 5. If so then go there but once u get out ask for the bigger and newer club named Spicy Club or Boss #2. They know where it is. The one on Soi 5 has been around awhile and used to be the only game in that area but not now. To be clear which place u are in - the cover at the old place is 200 baht and the cover at the Spicy Club is 300 baht. Go with the 300 baht club since it has more people. Spicy Club is a step up from Boss when it comes to decor, quality of service(not as busy as Boss yet) and the sound system is better. Apart from Spicy being less busy I already prefer it over Boss club. Over time we shall see. Spicy appears to be staying open until the sun goes up most everyday. Saw a lot of new faces in the crowd as well - fresh meat I like to say.

Boss is not my favorite after hours place but there is one reason I like it though - it is like a buffet when it come to the variety of people. U have all sorts of working girls of different nationalities, fairly normal Thai girls, Thai girls working at places like hotels who like to pick up after work, tourists looking to party, tourists looking to get laid, and then there are the men. Seasoned pros looking for freelancers, FOB tourists, men in suits who ended up at the Boss club who were too chicken to pull at the gogo bar but upon returning to their hotel ask the taxi where to go to find ladies, Nigerian gangs, Asians who can’t go to bed and need a late night drinking hole and the list goes on and on. Boss club is an eyeful. Let’s see how Boss #2 goes.

Boss and Spicy are some of the most poorly managed clubs I have ever seen in my whole life … I am a DJ, and been doing this for 15 years…. I know nightlife.

This is what it happens when afterhours are illegal and only corrupted people can open establishments…. you are completely helpless. Yesterday my girlfriend which is a kathoey got harrased by a stupid doorman in the Bos, bothering her and askin if she was already post-op, cause if not, she could not get in … I wonder if I would go to her mum or wife touch her down under and ask if she already cleaned herself up ….

Hope the situation change soon… or at least hope they hope The Tunnel soon again… it was the best after in Bangkok by far…
