Quote by Ping Chew from Standard and Poor’s in Singapore. The Chinese know their money so it was appropriate that someone with some sense start injecting some reason into the current regime. Okay - we know why there is a huge backlash right now. The former PM used illegal share companies to own half of Thailand and then turn around and sold it without paying taxes to a country whose national dish consists of chicken and rice. Once again folks. Even though u just took Thasky baby’s diplomatic passport away and started harassing his children u need to nail the guy, not roll back FDI investment laws to the 1950s. So continuing on their path of destroying the SET and created every roadblock conceivable for FDI the current regime is going to retroactively change the way foreigners can own Thai companies and force many companies to restructure. All for what? Cause they can’t keep bad people from doing bad things with the current laws? Let’s hear from someone who knows what they are talking about. FYI - don’t read any of the Thai newspapers on this since they are too busy trying to get photos of hiso kids being dragged into the tax department.
“I don’t quite understand what purpose this is designed to serve,” said Korn Chatikavanij,(Not of the hard rock group Korn) a former president of the Thai unit of J.P. Morgan Chase. “Effectively, it’s tightening of foreign ownership which begs the question of why in this day and age this is good for Thailand.” Wow. Someone with some sense actually says something so simple that it just begs for a straight answer. Thailand, recently taken by their own hiso Chinese/Thai Prime Minister is basically saying they don’t need any investors. Really? Last time I checked Vietnam, China and India have constructed the world’s biggest straws designed solely to suck up as much foreign investment as they can but yet Thailand with the an economy moving as fast as Sukhumvit during rush hour is saying we don’t need your money.
Well folks I just don’t get it. Thankfully I am blessed to be an American at a time when it looks like the only good time to be an American thanks to the Treat of Amity. So Thailand has a slowing economy, tourism is down but they just can’t seem to pull their heads out of the Thai karaoke bars long enough to realize that if u act like u don’t want people to come then they won’t come. Last quote from rock group Korn who seem amazingly up on their Thai politics - “The law that exists already provides protection. It doesn’t seem reasonable to make it more onerous.” Meaning the laws were around when Thasky committed highway robbery so u can punish him as it stands without having to wreck the place for the rest of us law abiding foreigners. Anyway going to watch the SET fall for another day and hope something happens soon to break up the boredom. I say we need another Thai model to star in porn movie with a high-ranking official from the SET.
