I want my iPhone!

Well. Maybe this post has no place on this blog but I am feeling especially techy today. I guess it is the 3 days cranking on the new blog, watching the Steve Jobs keynote and missing San Francisco. This cool weather, at least the the motorcycle taxi rides to Silom at 7am, are reminding me of a mild San Fran day. I would have loved to go to the Apple Keynote but I just can’t be bothered to go back to the US but I did watch it on my Mac. Anyway. The iPhone looks amazing and I think it is about time the mobile phone world gets shaken up a bit. I don’t just want that phone - I need it. I hope I get it before some Japanese guy buys it for a bargirl at Rainbow 4. That would bug me. A lot.

Ha, that is precisely where Thailand’s first iPhone will appear!

I want one too, but the internet features would be pretty useless here at the moment…

Oh, and welcome to the Wordpress club…

    hey Brother!!!!

was at mac world this week, saw the new iPhone up close and personal. Felt like i was trying to see the Mona Lisa in Paris, with all the freaking people jammed up as close as possible trying to get a photo.

Mac World was ok though, not really that great when it comes to new stuff. The new look at Leapord makes you want a new machine real bad.

hope all is well.. great luck with the new bar!

mac world would have been fun.

    grand opening was last night.

    jam packed!

    @Smitty

Thanks for linking to my Blog!
What’s good to know is that it’s already possible to use the iPhone with any SIM card (everything works, it’s 100% unlocked).
It’s also on my Blog: http://www.maxasia.net/2007/08/15/the-iphone-unlocked/
It’s still a bit expensive and requires some geek stuff, but it’s available in Hong Kong now. I guess it’ll be available in MBK very soon too.

    I enjoy reading you guys!
    Cheers,
    Max

did u see a bump in the hits?

I am waiting to hear how long the hack lasts.

My worry is apple does an update and then it stops working.

I personally am waiting for iPhone 2.

    What about u?

    thanks for reading!

    @Smitty

I am not sure any Apple firmware update can change the fact that the iPhone is fooled to believe it’s an AT&T card inside.
Anyway, I’m not gonna wait 2008 to get and iPhone that’s for sure, especially as it will be carrier-locked again!

As for the iPhone 2, I’m not quite sure Apple will release a v2 any soon… But I would love them to release a carrier-free iPhone!

(btw, I have noticed no real bump in the hits… actually almost none ^^)

    Cheers!

Sounds like another Mango Special Promo Night in the making:

“Come Meet Les’ iPhone At The Mango and enjoy 30 baht Chang All Night”
On 9-28 bring the wife, maer noi, and all your giks to the Big Mango Bar to meet Les and his brand new iPhone. The first 20 customers through the door get to check their e-mail on Les’ iPhone for free, whether they came to see Les or not. We will also be awarding a grand prize to the customer with the least sophisticated phone. The prize will be a free digital photo of you holding Les’ iPhone between the cleavage of one of the Mango girls. That will be sent to an e-mail address provided by you at no charge. T-shirts with “I met Les and his iPhone in a beer bar in nana plaza” on the front, all in thai of course, will be available for 99baht.

Just kidding with you Les. Actually, I am dying to see it and will be very jealous.

(mgmt. note: Those of you turning up on 9-28 expecting to see Les, get a 30baht Chang, or a 99 baht T-shirt should know that this is NOT A REAL OFFER. Although, if you do turn up on 9-28 and mention this I will sell you one bottle of Chang for 30 baht, provided that I am actually working that night)

Similar price on eBay in the UK :(

However, I HAVE to have one, so will take it up the arse and waste hard earned cash.

It’s worth it though, to be ‘cool’ like Les. :)

Just looked at eBay again… prices range between £300-£500!

It must be that Les has added value?

    Still want one.

It maybe another phone that I am too dumb to work, but I do like all things ‘Apple’, even though not always value for money.

No doubt I’ll be in the Mango with a new Apple next month?

    ;)

I would not buy one and think to use it in the unlocked form. Word is the first major iPhone software update will try to render the unlock technique useless and may brick the phone - also invalidating the warranty. Seems like too much money to spend for that to happen. Just get an iPod touch and wait…

    Damn… better retract my bid?!!

    iTouch it is then.

    I love ‘Apple’ ;)

Reading again, a description on eBay…

“As any unlocked iPhone I can only guarantee the current released versions of updates (up to and including 1.0.2). Future updates may relock the phone but it is likely that a patch or update will be made available to re-unlock the phone.”

Don’t know what to do now..? Do I listen to the ‘experienced man’, or Apple? Hmmm… always a dilema.

Fook it. I’ll get both iPhone and iTouch.

Just hope I don’t look like an iDiot.

    :)

dw - what I have been told by my friend’s who work at apple is they plan on continually breaking the unlock programs and if they can prove you ran one they may not offer the warranty. There is one theory that the update will “brick” the phone. Which means it will no longer work at all. Seems not worth the trouble to me especially knowing that rev 2 with more storage, hsdpa, gps, 3g and so on is around the corner. One thing you should know with apple is never to buy rev 1 of hardware.

iPod touch is rev 2 so to speak.

Settled then. Apple can poke it.

Need a touch though… If I’m not internet shopping or reading your blog, there is a danger that I might have to do some work?

    Cheers!
