The FARANG Speaks 2 Much (tfs2m)

Remember in high school when the boys would get into a bragging match about penis size but usually only the one with the biggest dick would ever have the balls to pull it out and prove who the winner was? I always found it kind of silly but maybe I just wasn’t to keen on finding out who the winner really was. Looking back it was all kind of childish and seemed rather pointless. I find the battle of the Farangs in Thailand to be quite similar. Let me explain.

Somethings are just quite easy to obtain in Thailand. A beautiful girl for one. Even if the chick is not a working girl u see some pretty amazing, young women with older guys who frankly are just not too good looking. Fortunately if u have some sort of decent income, take a shower and are not an asshole u can land some amazing chicks. Awesome. Love Thailand for this. Take a good looking guy, with more cash and u can probably do even better. Point is - as a man u can have a much younger and better looking girl in Thailand(Asia for that matter) than u can back in your home town. How cool is that. Point being it is a common site. So that takes away one of the normal bragging rights than men like to use to assert themselves one notch higher than the competition since just about any dude in Thailand can have a hot girlfriend.

Partying and going out. Let’s face it. It is cheaper here to party and go out and if u have some cash at all u can have some wicked nights. Getting hammered, take drugs, stay out all night and still get laid. Tough to match this feat with less money in other parts of the world. U don’t have to be a superstar to do some legendary partying in Bangkok. Another bragging point gone for the most part. Sure. Some people dump some stupid money to prove they can party better than the rest of them but face it - for a modest some u can party pretty well in Bkk.

Jobs. This is probably one of the tougher ones in BKK. It is hard to find a good, high paying job in Bangkok. So given this, especially given all the stupid working laws for expats in Thailand(I don’t have enough ink to cover this right now), many Farangs resort to starting companies or take any number of roles not equal to their previous jobs. Point being u take what u can get, start what u can or somehow figure out how to stay in BKK while doing some virtual or remote job. So as a bragging point jobs can be a big deal in Thailand. People who land a proper expat gig with a high salary tend to have a pretty amazing time in Thailand and usually like to let others know that they can and do. Gets a little old.

All this is the background for trying to get to my point. My point is this. Why do most Farangs who reside in Thailand full time resort to child like teardowns and bragging sessions that frankly are just so pathetic that I start to feel sorry for them. Man - I found the best apartment. Amazing u wouldn’t believe it. Or - my wife and I have a Thai company and we are making so much money that we have to buy land just to have somewhere to put our money. I mean literally u can bump into someone u have not seen in a while and after the hello and how are u’s are done they launch right into a my dick is bigger than yours in Thailand speech. Some of the best ones are related to bargirls where people brag about how I was her first customer, or she is a virgin or she is not really a working girl but I saw her in a gogo bar. Come on. We all know the truth on this one.

My friend, an author, commented one time how being in Thailand tends to bring out the worst in some Farangs when it comes to tearing down other Farangs and making sure they assert who is better off. I find it rather silly since the whole point of Thailand is to be able to live a unique life, enjoy the flowers so to speak and in some sense alter the barometer that the rest of the world chooses to use when it comes to measuring life’s success. Another example was played out quite publicly online when we all witnessed first hand the John (I am inferior and need to change that) Galt tirade launched against Stickman - a fellow, much more successful, blogger.

Farangs always tend to wonder why the Indians do so well in Thailand and I have a theory. As a common race they help each other out. They work together, even as competitors, to reach a better position in life than they would have otherwise. Ever see a Farang do that in Thailand? Hardly. They work their damnest at times to tear each other down. For example. What do u think Nana Plaza would be like if all the Farang owners actually worked together to make the plaza better. I think it would be nothing short of amazing. I bet it would be mostly nude, open later, cleaner and booming with no closed bars.

I guess this is all just an observation but sometimes I just have to walk away from a conversation where a fellow Farang is just going on and on about themselves. I think it is a sign of a lack of self-esteem converging with the foreigner syndrome. The one where u already stand out since u are not Thai but yet amongst the fellow white man u are just one in the same. I rather like the situation but it seems others find it uncomfortable and do whatever they can to topple the others in a show of superiority. I say save it for the playground folks.
