Soi Cowboy’s Deja Vu bar has some incredibly hot girls at the moment - given the disappointing, but inevitable, gravitation of Baccara’s finest towards Japanese gentlemen at the expense of we farangs, is it time to reconsider my bar ratings? I swear, every time I endorse a gogo bar, its performance immediately plummets…
Speaking of which, Nana Plaza’s Angelwitch may still have the most entertaining shows in Bangkok, but they really need to hire some new girls. Sure, a few of the showgirls are stunners, but try taking them out of the bar before 1am and see how far you get. The regular gogo-dancers (ie. space-fillers) are now predominantly of the ilk that I wouldn’t even touch with someone else’s…
Back on Cowboy, Shark bar is still cramming in the cuties, but it’s a shame that they’re still on a zero-tolerance total coverage policy. When you can pop into several bars on Cowboy and see topless or nude girls, there is a class of punter who simply won’t entertain the prospect of drinking anywhere that isn’t “showing”. Or do covered-up girls simply add to the allure?
Nana Plaza’s G-Spot bar has a few cuties, and is undoubtably the best of the Crown Group bars, but with beer now at a sky-high ฿135 is it really worthwhile? They have Mr Bean videos on constant rotation on their projection screen, which adds another element of the truly random to this bar. Thai Style indeed. If you do pop in, the smaller dancing stage on your left as you enter seems to be where the more lively girls dance. The long main stage to the right was almost entirely devoid of any movement when I visited recently. More life in a tramp’s vest…
Soi Cowboy has a few bars with identical business plans - namely, to extract the absolute maximum baht from punters by surrounding them with thirsty over-friendly “ladies”. The “hand-job” bars (Moonshine Joint, Fanny’s, Jungle Jim’s and Toy Bar), along with Sunshine/Afterskool are where I’m firmly placing a stern gaze here. So it was a nice reversal when I was sat in one of the aforementioned recently for a Last Beer Of The Night, having successfully fended off the cola vampires, and some poor fool rang the bell to buy the bar a drink. First time I’ve ever come out of one of those establishments “up”!
I hit the Cowboy and the Plaza reasonably hard this week, but have been neglecting Patpong of late. Although I did pop into the Madrid bar on Patpong 1 for breakfast recently - very cheap, and very tasty. They were open before 9am when my buddies and I visited - do they ever sleep?
