   I believe it’s 18 to work in bars, but 20 to visit them. The law is a little confusing on this. I think it’s technically illegal to take an 18 year old gogo girl for drinks in her own bar on her day off.

   The way we were explained the laws is this:

   18-20 can work in the bars as service girls - but not bartenders or bargirls - meaning girls that go out or go with customers.

   Technically prostitution is illegal but as we all know hardly enforced. The one thing they are suppose to enforce is the age limit. Meaning girls under 20 are not suppose to be going with customers. Hence bars put up a sign that says no girls under 20. The main thesis behind this is that a punter could get nailed if he is paying to be with a girl under 20. However if it is a non-paying situation the girl can be 18 or over.

   Quite a gray area. SO yes the bars have girls under 20 working but they are not suppose to. Most bars pay extra to the police if they have girls under 20 working. If they do the police will generally call before they visit said bar so the bar can hide the under 20s upstairs. U will see this firsthand on Cowboy many times in places like Rawhide, Sheba’s and Long Gun to name a few.

   Smitty: You’ve hit on the essence of statutory application as it applies to most laws in most jurisdictions. Law is legislated and then, where we come from, it’s the courts and the lawyers who interpret its application.

   Here, it’s the police who need room to pull out their chairs. belly up to the table and dig in. If this “gray area” did not exist there iwas no room for “Busniet” that would lead to outright “stay the f*ck away” payments which can be almost as high as the cost of running the rest of the operation..

   So yeah, when ya think about it, (and I’m neither a lawyer nor a bar owner, manager or insider. I’ve just been here for a while and Discovery Channeled the place to my own satisfaction) it works as well as can be expected here in a classical jurisdiction. People grumble but the play is clearly drawn up. And everybody does their best to keep it balanced.
   But “TILT” is tilt and once in a while someone gets stupid. (The cops w/ Khun Chuwit Komolwisit par eamplar.

   This is what works more or less here and what passes for law enforcement here. (As people close to the scene well know) Yeah, I like to extrapolate like this when the “rascals” are shuffling instead of dancing and “bloody facing” instead of being cool about it and there’s nothing much happening but I still have half a beer. I look around the place and try to figure out what’s happening.

   U got it. Most of the bars are looking out for their own skin anyway and that of their customers. However I would not want to be caught with an under 18 who was not associated with a bar, meaning u have no one to turn to for help, because for sure they are going to get something out of you for it. The plan there would be to act quickly, talk slow and get out your wallet.

    I bar fined one in here twice last week.
